When it comes to looks, I was never a fan of the Hyundai Geneis Coupe to begin with. Although it did beat their past offerings such as the Scoupe and Tiburon. The Genesis Coupe's styling is at least going in the right direction compared to them or looking less generic but still not over the hill yet. It didn't get Hyundai noticed as much as the new Sonata did either. After noticing this http://forums.automobilemag.com/70/9...you-s/#9192903 review of how the 2013 Genesis looks from a 2010 Genesis owner, I took a 2nd look at the new Genesis. The dare to be different rear quarter window is still there, I guess I can live with it. The one change that I disagree with though is what they did to the front grill. I do like some of the more aggressive changes on it, but that black plastic or is it rubber that runs right through breaks up the flow. The same can be said for the changes they made on the hood too.

I saw one on the road the other day and thought it (the facelifted one) looked pretty good

    Liked it in person.

So they went from a 2001 Elantra grille to a 2012 Sonata Hybrid grille. I don't see the problem.

I sort of agree that for a car that is supposed to be more unique (by that I mean not one of the S-M-L-XL-XXL sedans) that it should distance itself more from the run-of-the-mill sedans.

This is one of those cars which look better in person than on a picture.

I like the old better. I saw a facelifted version this past weekend and was disappoint.

I like the agressive lines of the facelifted one. Now if they only fixed the loose suspension, and terrible manual to make this thing the track beast it was meant to be.

Is that tumor-ish growth supposed to be a bumper?

I have been impressed with Hyundais this century, but between this and the Veloster, I find their new styling repulsive.
I still think I have only seen maybe 1 first-gen Genesis despite living 5 blocks from the local Hyundai dealer.

Saw my first one in person yesterday; I thought it actually looked quite nice and far more muscular than before

If it's ugly then so is the BRZ or FRS. I was driving the other day past a dealer and saw one sitting out front and from the side, I thought it was for sure a new FRS or BRZ. After getting closer and seeing the tails I saw it was indeed a new Genesis. They need to work on the big plastic grille (reminds me of Mazda), but other than that it's ok.

I am of the (very strong) opinion that everyone us freaking delusional that thinks Hyundai and Kia's new styling is so great. I think the overall shapes of their cars are ok, but their designers suffer from the inability to put the pencil down. Their new designs are so busy with so many ridiculous lines.

Again, my opinion. But I seem to be opposite from what the rest of the world wants right now I guess ...

I liked the old one, and like the new one even more. Especially in red and blue.

If they scaled it down from Mustang size to RX8/BRZ/911 size it would be a contender for me.

but I think all their new cars looks 100% better than the old ones. Especially the accent and elantra.

i feel there is just one too many styling elements on the nose of it...just one less would make it better. for example, the fog and headlight shapes don't quite work together. if the fogs went, it'd look okay.
    Regarding DD'ing a tuned Evo:

It's no uglier than a large mouth bass that just caught a big piece of guard rail in it's kisser and can't seem to get rid of it.

only thing i like better about the 2013 is that the front bumper doesn't taper up....

that is the one thing that really annoys me about my car

IMO Hyundai took an acceptable and normal looking car and made it over-complicated and hideous looking. Just so that it would match the rest of their ugly line-up.

The hood absolutely ruins the car for me. It would look so much better without the fake vents on it.

getting use to the new grille. Good vents still look like trash though.

Doesn't look particularly offensive in the video. Not a beautiful car by any means, but i wouldn't say it's ugly.

I own a 2010 Genesis 3.8GT (Track in US but with more features in Canada), Not a fan of the changes in the 2013 but I do like the interior in the 2013 and 348hp on tap is never bad (even though im probably well past that with my mods). Its just too busy in the front end.

    YES.

That hood, with it's FAKE vents is awful looking. And I say this while liking the car.

Yes. IMO they had it right with the 02-06 Tiburon - the generation before was hideous (like the Genesis) and the refresh of that model wasn't that pretty. The Genesis along with all the new Hyundais look like melted ugly fat blobs.

  32. 05-22-2012 08:19 PM #32
It's uglier for sure, but stands out a lot more than the original which is what this car really needed. One of the instances where bland and moderatively decent < flashy but ugly. Also looks more cohesive for some reason.

Doesn't matter if it's ugly or not. Main question is this - can it handle bouncing off the rev limiter while doing doughnuts?

  34. 05-22-2012 11:58 PM #34
I like the changes. Taken as a whole, it's a nice looking car.
Mazda, now there is a face I can't get next to. And Acura. What the heck is up with Acrua fronts? Uninspired uglyness

I think both of them are trying way too hard with their styling. These are the kind of cars that create a shock the first moment you see them, especially coming from an economy car producer. A year or two later their design already looks dated and their imitation is very apparent.
