I think I might have a bad ECU. Ive been trying to pass CA smog inspection for a while now and although I pass the sniffer, I continue to fail the readiness test!

Every time we scan the car the Secondary Air Injection test and EVAP test remain incomplete. I've gone through all the steps to ensure the tests complete. I've tested after driving 30 , 50, 80 miles etc. but still the tests wont complete. We even tried to clear all DTC's but for some reason it wont clear off of the ecu. We tested the SAI and EVAP system and they are all working 100%.

So, we think that the ECU might need to be replaced

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions or if there is a way to confirm without doubt that the ecu is faulty.

Since I cant pass smog, I haven't been able to renew my registration since March and I've been driving around with a temporary tag that's since expired. So before I go out and buy a replacement ecu, I want to know if anyone out there has a working ecu (8N0 906 018 AN ecm (02 amu 225q)) that I could borrow/rent for an hour or two so that I can take my car to get tested and immediately return your ecu to you. I can provide a deposit of some sort, or you can come with me to the smog station, whichever you prefer. I just need to get this done before the police start hassling me about my registration.

    ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!

TLDR: Have bad ECU, Need working ECU to pass smog, need to borrow or rent for 1 or 2 hrs.

What codes 'wont clear off of the ECU'? Please post them.

And can you explain more about how you tested SAI and EVAP, and know they are OK? I doubt it is a bad ECU; much more likely a sensor or wiring problem.

I scanned my car back in mid February and these are the codes that came up:

I have since changed the MAF sensor, brake light switch, and a few other things, but the same faults continue to come up after testing 1000 miles post item replacement, also, the parts I changed I did so with new factory replacements. One of the fault codes caught my eye and I checked against the ross-tech wiki:

    01314 - Engine Control Module

01314 - Engine Control Module: No Communications
    Possible Causes
    CAN-Databus Wiring/Connectors from/to Engine Control Module faulty
Fault(s) stored in Engine Control Module
Engine Control Module recently flashed or re-mapped
    Possible Solutions
    Check CAN-Databus Wiring/Connectors from/to Engine Control Module
    Check Measuring Value Blocks (MVB)
Usually Measuring Value Blocks (MVB) 125+ show the current Communication Status

01314 - Engine Control Module: Check DTC Memory
    Possible Causes
Fault(s) stored in Engine Control Module
    Possible Solutions
Check Engine Control Module for Fault Codes
    Special Notes
Engine Control Module stored a Code which influences other Control Modules Functionality.
To clear this Fault Code you will need to correct the Problem in the Engine Control Module first.

So these are the codes that wont clear, even after trying to clear them well over 15 times using everything from a ross-tech vag com to a $2500 shop scanner.

Regarding the sai and evap, my mechanic connected his scanner to the car and tested the sai and evap system and said that the pumps/mechanical parts and everything else are working perfectly.
