so until recently, i have been shooting with a sony a290, but recent problems with the car caused me too sell it. looking for a new camera now, within a 500ish range. i found a couple of canon t2is for that price, but i was wondering if there was anything better?

Better? Sort of depends on what you want out of the camera. What you'd be using it for, what your expectations are...etc.

You could get a used 40D/grip/50mm f1.8 lens for $500. I just sold my 40D/BG-E2N for $420 and I've seen them sell for lower.
