Is it normal for the floor and heater channel to reach 100 plus degrees? The cable on the drivers side channel is broken, and it is closed. so is it maybe sending all the heat up the passengers side?

Need more info. Is the heater stuck open, is that what you are saying? Outside temperature? How are you measuring this? VW heat gets pretty hot from the engine when they work well.

My mom's old bug had floor heat but no dash heat when I was a kid. You're right foot would be melting and your upper half still freezing.

The drivers side heat does not work, the cable that opens the flap to the heater channel on the drivers side is broken, and the flap is closed. But the passengers side floor gets really hot and so does the heater channel. So i was not sure if that is normal. Also, I think the motor is running warmer than usual. That I am trying to figure out ASAP...any help would be awesome!!!!

If the flap is closed then all the heated air will be funneled to the open side so that is normal. If the engine is running hotter than normal then your heat will also be hotter than normal. You should probably not drive it until you figure out why it is running so hot. Junk in the fan shroud from storage maybe? Mice love it in there and it doesn't take much to make a huge difference in cooling.

I picked it up on Friday from a guy who daily drove it. Then I went to Boston for the weekend, and I guess it is possible something got in there while it sat over the weekend. I will check that. Thanks!!

You can disconnect the cable at the heater box, kinda hokey fix but easy enough to do. Just climb under the rear of the car with an 8mm wrench and loosen the barrel clamp from the cable flap to the heater box. Do this when the engine is cold.

So it turns out that I was just a paranoid air-cooled noob! I had a friend who has been working on them for about 10 years check it out, and he said it is acctually running damn near perfect. and he helped me locate the rebuild tag, apparently they had the whole motor torn down and rebuilt, new heads everything....so thanks for all the help guys!!!!!
