    Morning

I think this is a long shot but I need a new clutch kit and throw out bearing for the .:R by the weekend any ideas ? Ecs wouldn't be able to get it in time, Something local would be best. I'm trying to avoid bring it to a shop to get her fixed because it would cost way to much, plus I just had the steering rack replaced, almost 3 weeks ago.

the goal is the have the car back on the road for Spring Fling

    Thanks

    Whaaaa happened!!!!!!

Throw a single mass flywheel in there while you are at it, fourseasons tuning sells a billet steel one.

Plus you avoid the possibilities of the deaded hamster wheel down the road

Why a single mass? I'm just going to stick with stock clutch set-up I don't plan on bolting much more power on it, Plus I just replaced the steering rack 3 weeks ago and one power steering line that wasn't the cheapest.

Here is the story its a big long.

Last week I was leaving our Northern Euros meet, went to start the car clutch went right to the floor didn't come back up. Lucky Dave (keepinitkleen) could drive the car with out use of a clutch so swapped keys dove home. Found she was leaking brake fluid Friday morning and could've get any pressure back in the clutch system on Saturday after I put brand new New rotors and pads all around because the slave cylinder was leaking and since its next to the clutch, brake fluid has gotten on the clutch and now I have to do a full clutch job well the .:R isn't the easiest to do this job.

But I found this DIY/How to

I Just hope to have the car back on the road soon its sad walking past it everyday and not driving it

I really hope you know what your doing.

Plus, do it once and do it right. Spring fling shouldn't be a make or break deadline.

From what I understand (atleast with Mazda) you can not machine a dual mass flywheel. On a regular flywheel you machine IT when you change your clutch. (Just like brake rotors) You might have problems if you just put the clutch in. Especially if you have fluid contamination.

If it gets fixed or not I'm going to spring fling but it would be nice to have the car fixed for it and ride in my car if not Ill be filming the entire drive and taking rolling shots.

Last time I did a clutch on a car it was a regular flywheel but I dont see why a you would need a new one, the old clutch is in good shape. I think it should be good but we wont know till I pull it all out

i was surprised to see this thread, as the clutch was done around 60k miles

r32's have dual mass flywheels, and cant be refinished as far as i know.

you should also consider doing the rear main seal while in there

I'm as surprised as you are man, it was working 100% the day before it happened, the clutch was grabbing strong no slip in any gear when in and out of gear. You saw the car the Sunday before it happened at the meet and it was driving great that day just a little dusty because it rained the night before. I'll Check out the seal since I'm there. Do you know if the Clutch Slave Cylinder / Throw Out Bearing was changed when the clutch was last done ?

I haven't been doing any hard take offs or even driving it that hard at all for that matter just up and down the highway and to the go station and back.

Clutch kits will almost always come with a throw out bearing, but not a slave cylinder - pretty much a given. I would also advise to go for a single mass FW. Far better feel and no moving parts to crap out. And do the rear main regardless (leak or no leak).

When you are installing new friction material (clutch or brakes) you need to start with a fresh surface to do it properly. With a regular flywheel you resurface it. This can not be done with a dual mass. So just installing the new clutch you might end up with problems later.

Check the price on the OE fly wheel first. You'll drop a brick! This is another reason people go to a regular flywheel.

If youre going to do it do it right Get a single mass lightweight flywheel and a reputable clutch. Sooner rather than later you will have problems with your flywheel. Just be prepared to put up with the chatter at idle.

Iv drivin a car with a single mass I didn't like the chatter, plus I want to keep the car OEM I liked how it felt the clutch didn't make any extra sounds.

Chatter yes it goes away when you rev or are moving.

Keeping it OEM I recommend you buy a new flywheel and Sachs or Luk clutch kit. OUCH.

Have a feeling you guys might be confusing gear rattle with clutch chatter. Clutch chatter is typically from aggressive friction discs that grab quickly and don't slip so engagement is rough. Gear rattle is typically caused from light flywheels that don't dampen the power pulses from the engine as well so the gear teeth load and unload.

Whatever my 20th does, my mk4 8v did the same thing, tick tick tick tick a good rev and it went away for a bit but would always come back.
