Thinking about a 2009 Cayenne

Sorry guys, the V6 version...however, drove one yesterday and it handles amazingly for a v6 SUV.

Trying to decide if it's a good decision. Found one with 20k miles on it, new tires, new brakes, mint condition. Figure I can get it for around $39k certified.

To give perspective, I'm deciding between a new Jeep Grand Cherokee overland (about $6k cheaper), MB GLK (about the same price), and the Cayenne.

Pros on the Jeep is that it is fully loaded, drives smooth, great initial quality, better mpg
Pros on the GLK is luxury interior, sporty handling
Pros on Cayenne is that it is a PORSCHE, better resale value, handles amazing

Cons on the Cayenne are the crappy mpg, high maintenance/repaid potential, and that it is used.

Anybody have experiences with the Cayenne? All the reviews I've read are fantastic. Also, it seems reliability is better than both the Benz and the Jeep.

CON: A Cayenne with a V6 is NOT a Porsche. It's a Touareg with a stupid dashboard (especially radio controls).

I don't know about better reliability than the Jeep. I would stay away from the MB, personally, for a multitude of reasons. I think your top two choices should be GC / Cayenne, with the Cayenne being better overall. They do handle pretty darn well, just too slow for the money. But, if you're looking at fuel economy, the faster you want a Cayenne to go, the worse it gets -- MUCH worse.

If you find that comfort is a selling point, the Cayenne is better all the way around, but you're going to lose some storage, if that's important.

You will have a bigger bill at the Porsche dealer when you go to do maintenance on the vehicle. However, if I remember correctly, it's a one-a-year maintenance, depending on how many miles you drive.

I'm sure that I didn't help much. But, overall, the Cayenne is the better SUV.

GRand Cherokee

if is gonna get bumped/bruised, it won't feel as bad as if it were a luxury car

luxury is over-rated ... you're not gonna live in your car are you ? and if the cherokee is fully-loaded, it might have leather seats just like in the MB/Porsche

you definitely need to maintain and fill up your car ..... the cherokee is more reliable, has better mileage, and prob doesn't need premium gas

After factoring in depreciation/increased maintenance/repair costs, fuel costs, etc vs the Jeep. The porsche would cost roughly $3-$5k more in the end--that's after either 5 or 10 years of ownership.

Yeah, but it's a [fake] PORSCHE!!

I'm sure you'd love the Jeep. They're decent SUVs. There isn't much that Chrysler produces right now that I am fond of, but the Jeep GC has remained at the top of the respected list.

Jeep it is!! Picked it up yesterday and couldn't be happier. Went with the Overland edition that rides on air suspension and has a V8 (I had to compensate for the Porsche's speed somehow). I definitely think it was the right decision, much more plush, and the ride can be turned to sport, or "comfy" with the air ride.

Plus, Jeep was much more willing to deal. Porsche gave the impression a low-ball offer was rude (guess they have to keep that image of exclusiveness). Whereas, all Jeep dealers are giving pretty hefty discounts.
