2010 Golf has water on backseat floor when it rains

I've had my 2010 4-door Golf since new and had been noticing a mildew odor, but could never find the problem, it would come and go. Finally discovered that the backseat floor behind driver's seat was soaking wet under the mat. It was raining and I could see the water coming in from under the back door, over the plastic "curb" and dripping down under the mat. Took it in for service last week, they said they could not make it leak and they looked under carpet and said it was dry and odor-free (it had dried up by the time I had the appt). Well, it's been raining this week and the floor is soaked again and the car stinks! Going back in next week. Has anyone had this problem?

Haven't had that issue w/ mine. Per chance, do you happen to have any aftermarket audio or suspension mods on the car? Just curious, if you do, sometimes installers will run cabling under the vehicle and bring it in through the floor, making a hole that if not sealed could let water in.

Also, check the spare tire well.

First things first, no reason to wait for an appointment. If you throw a code, get it in ASAP and let them document the code. If you have water leaking in, get your car in immediately so they can document it. My dealership is great about this, they promote this kind of thing so that the customers issues are documented and resolved.

I've experienced a bit of this lately. About a week ago, I was vacuuming my Golf's carpets. When I lifted the rubber floormat in the rear (drivers side), the bottom of the floormat was covered in condensation. More recently, I've noticed a musty smell inside my car. I haven't done anything about it because my life is super busy right now and, frankly, I'm stumped as to what could have caused this.

My Golf is a 2010 2-door.

If you have a sunroof then its most likely your drain holes or drain tubes are clogged you should have four drain holes up there in each corner and if they happen to be clogged the water will overflow into the car either through the headliner or find its way down a pilar to the floor

Make sure there isn't a rip or tear in your fuel door as well, that would allow water in the rear quarter panel under heavy rain, or car washing. There was a thread a long time ago when someone had removed their hatch interior and found water inside the rear quarter panels at each side, along with dirt and debris that had somehow gotten in there.

As a future 2010 owner, this is concerning. Keep this thread updated. Kinda scary. That water can cause all kinds of issues.

I don't know if the Golf has a cabin filter like the GTI (I would think that they would), but if you have a 2010 and haven't replaced that it could be contributing to the musty smell. I replaced mine because I would get some serious stank when I turned the A/C on.

Now it smells great

Mine has had the cabin filter TSB performed.

I recall a thread from a couple years ago, when the MkVI was brand new, about some cars having faulty welding above the back hatch. If I remember right the owner had to threaten to sue VW to get it fixed. Dunno if that is relevant. Perhaps it is if you are seeing water in the spare tire area.
