Looking at some black tails, but are they legal in Hawaii?

There's the product link. Not totally serious about them, but curious if I'd even be able to use them without being pulled over every 5 minutes...

I had smoke tails on my MIV and never got bothered for them being all black. I think all that matters is that they light up with the right color bulbs. I'm not sure how the people giving safety will think about that though.

The only thing I could find about this was in the safety inspection manual : http://hawaii.gov/dot/highways/hwy-v/ ; second link from the bottom and on pages 15-24 of that pdf.

Good read... It looks as if they illuminate red, I just didn't know if the assembly being black and not red would make a big difference...

Anyone have clear or black lights that could shed some light on the subject?

As far as Kauai goes on safety inspections anything applied on the lens "diminishes" the light output and would fail inspection... But thats just what Kauai DMV director tells us... Remember that not only do they have to light up red but if the red reflector is in the lens then it must reflect red easily also..
