Ok ive done some searching on here and havent found much, Ive got a motor im building its an AMB 1.8T head with an AWM 1.8T block. The question I is regarding the thermostat housing, obviously the AWM and the AMB use different style thermostats. I have read mixed reviews on using an AMB thermostat on the AWM block. Some people have said you must machine the AWM block in order to get the AMB thermostat housing to fit. ANd others have said you dont have to machine it, you only have to use a thinner o-ring, and it works fine. People have said that without machining there is a slight gap, thus the need for machining. Myself I used the old o-ring, which was a little compressed and some RTV sealer and the housing bolted down flush. My motor is still on the engine stand so I have no coolant in it , so this is why im asking the question now. How many people have used this combo, and what have you done to battle the thermostat issue?
