Nice, makes me want to get back into making model planes even though that paint scheme looks like it would be a real challenge to replicate on a small scale.

You think the F-15C has a great Splinter camo job...
Also, AviationIntel is a great website by an amazing photographer. Lots of great write ups & photos

That scheme is pretty easy - my father does a lot of models, and does many schemes like that (popular from WW2 etc.).
It can be as simple as painters tape used properly with airbrushing.

I'd assume so - I don't think anyone in the Navy/AF has the balls to request some interesting schemes over the generic and boring dull grey we've adopted.![]()

It's funny, but among all the aircraft on the carrier (Hornets, Super Hornets, Prowlers, Hawkeyes) the baby Hornet has the highest sortie rate. It may take a few more man hours of maintenance then when they were new, but the F/A18 A-D's are among the most reliable combat aircraft out there.![]()

On my second deployment VAQ-131 had a Prowler stuck in the hangar bay for almost four months becuase the landing gear wouldn't retract.....even the Grumman tech reps couldnt figure it out. Last cruise they had one down for two months for a cracked canopy....guess it's kinda hard to find a new canopy for a 30 year old aircraft....![]()

I have old photos of when I was at VFA-106 and we got one of their jets and we left the camo job on it but put our tail code and squadron identification on it. I loved the old VFC-12 camo paint. It made the Hornet look, well, cool. This new paint job is unique as well. They always had the best looking jets at Oceana.

I'm irritated that they are failing to mention the creator of the paint scheme.

well listen here.. he IS getting recognition from it. He didn't just draw it out on piece of paper he's worked side by side with chiefs having private meetings making, and designed it on Maya. Ever used Maya? it's not easy. It's a lot of work 3 MONTHS worth of work just to create it.. he deserves recognition for it. You are only saying he doesn't because you're jealous.

It's a cool paint job, but I wasn't the one that created a username and posted in here solely to complain about someone not getting recognition in an article.
And I'd be very surprised if he is able to get a copyright on it. AFAIK, works of the US Government are not copyrightable....and if they were, the government would generally hold the copyright, not the individual who created it.

actually THEY are.. the invidividual created the entire thing solely on his own personal time not the military's time. You don't know **** about what happened. Infact we have the paperwork the GOVERNMENT paperwork that says until he's compensated for it he owns it 100%.. so now what we're you saying?
And I only came on here to spill WHOM is responsible for it.. not to bitch. it's when someone decides to be negative which I know is stemmed from jealousy but still you should really calm that jealousy.
