This is a thread that is mostly for Golf R owners in NC to keep up with local events, meets and exchange info, tips, issues and ideas about the cars, to discuss modifications, local service shops and dealers, tuners and so on.

We welcome all VW enthusiasts that want to come and post here, of course. But over the past month we've noticed more and more MKVI Rs coming to North Carolina so I thought it would be great to have a centralized thread that we can use.

Annual Caravan to Wookies in the Woods

NC Wookies in the Woods (and Ewoks) Caravan Thread - This caravan takes place on the week of the Wookies in the Woods event every year in Fontana Dam, NC. It was started by slidemx5. In 2012, the caravan originated from Graham, NC and drove through to Fontana Village Resort with a lunch and fuel stop in Asheville, NC.

Cars & Coffee - Raleigh

This Saturday morning event is on the first weekend of every month from Spring to Fall. It takes place at Brier Creek shopping center in the parking lot near Barnes & Noble. There are about 200 cars here each month! Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/CarsAndCoffeeRaleigh

Cars & Coffee - Charlotte

One of the first C&C events in NC and also one of the biggest. C&C Charlotte is also on the first Saturday of the month but it usually draws a different crowd. Website: http://charlotte.carsandcoffee.info/

Cars & Coffee - Burlington

This event was started by myself and some friends. Our first meeting will be on Memorial Day weekend, May 26th, 2012. It's in a great location, centrally located between Greensboro and Raleigh-Durham and takes place on the fourth Saturday of each month between 8:00 and 11:00 AM. Located in the parking lot between Starbucks and Holly Hill Mall at 451 Huffman Mill Road. We hope to see a strong, consistent VW crowd here every month. More info: www.facebook.com/candcburlington

You know I bought my first VW R model a MK4 R32 from the Burlington VW dealer. They even delivered it to my house in Charlotte. A MK5 GTI and a MK6 GTI and 6 years I'm back in an R and I love it.

You know I bought my first VW R model a MK4 R32 from the Burlington VW dealer. They even delivered it to my house in Charlotte. A MK5 GTI and a MK6 GTI and 6 years I'm back in an R and I love it.

Nice. What are they doing aside from doing an oil change?

I'm a big fan of BFI. They do great work. I'll definitely be taking my car up there later this year for some of the bigger items. I did my intake and whatnot myself but I have exhaust and intercooler plans for later this year... and that's a little too much for me.

By the way, I don't want to hear any lame excuses next year when Wookies rolls around. Some of you guys better caravan with us. I can promise it's a trip you'll never forget.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to try and do a cookout or BBQ or something, somewhere in Central NC (Hillsborough hint hint) for all the R owners.

currently ~5600 miles (23-25 mpg in Charlotte and 27-29 mpg highway Charlotte to Brevard)
waiting on APR TBE exhaust w/Diamond Black tips...and then, Stage 2+

GMP performance cheated a little bit The picture of the WINtake installed is actually bRevard's R
who is also using GMP. They did a good job ( dremel I think) . Ask Max at GMP for for details. My R has the cover off and it does not bother me one bit

Had a great showing at C&C this morning. Two Rs showed up with a few other VWs as well. Had a Lambo, three GT-Rs, five Vipers and an NSX. Will upload pics soon. 45 cars total. Not bad for our first meet!

Yes, the pic ot the engine cover is mine. I believe the mod was a combo of cutting and dremeling. I really do want to keep as much of an OEM look as I can. While the cover isn't a necessity, it is a preference. GMP (Matt and Cody) did a pretty good job of working through what I wanted done. I've got the APR TBE on order through them and will have them do the install. That will bring me to Stage 2+...
