Anyone here in San Mateo area that can help me change a drive axle at a reasonable price. I can buy the axle, just need someone who can put it in at a reasonable price.

Depending on what side, it could be easy or not so easy. I've done them on Mk2/3s with not too much of an issue, as long as you had the right tools. you'll need:

    - Large 1/2" drive socket for the axle nut (32mm? 28mm? I forget)
    - Triple square 3/8" drive socket for bolts on CV to tranny (again, forgot but maybe 8mm)
    - A couple of standard 3/8" drive metric sockets to unbolt the bottom knuckle from the A-arm (so you don't have to re-align the car after putting everything back as opposed to removing the 2 17/18mm strut bolts)
    - Floor jack and jack stands
    - Patience and time

If you're fairly mechanically inclined, might take you a couple of hours. If not, it may take you a whole day.
