So I went on to Audi UK site to see some of the other A3 options (not offered in US) and started to configure what would be my US equivalent A3 TDI only to discover the fuel economy is extremely different. Anyone know why?
For S-tronic 2.0 TDI FWD
Audi UK says combined 57.6 mpg
Audi US says combined 34 mpg

so the gallon measurement is different.

but that doesn't explain all of it. 57 mpg (UK) = 47 mpg (US). Still much higher than 34 mpg.

Hi, I get around 57mpg from my Mk 4 Golf here in the UK.
An imperial gallon has 4.5ltrs. 57 divided by 4.5 =12.6mpl. US gallon 3.7ltrs. 12.6 x 3.7=46.62.......not far off 47mpg!
Feel better now?

Diesels are also very heavily underrated in the mpg department with the new EPA stuff. Most cars are underrated but diesels even more so.

UK uses Imperial gallons which always make it look like the car gets great mileage.
EU uses liters/100km
