I am intersted in hearing from those of you who have the Fender sound system. How do you like it and how does it sound compared to the regular sound system?
I can't really compare it to the base stereo, but I can definitely say the Fender is the best car audio system I've ever owned. The media options are great, esp the SD card reader. Load up a 8GB card with music and you never have to fuss with CDs or connecting/disconnecting an iPOD.
The nav is crap, like most in-car systems. Not sure why they bother.
The Fender system is really nice. But i'm old and listen to 80's on 8 all the time on sirius. Depends on what you like. It's a car, sometimes i would rather listen to the engine.
I'm right there with you.......I'm either listening to 80s 0n 8 or 1st Wave!! I went out and bought a satellite radio a few days after I got my Beetle. I can't live without satellite.
At first, I really wasn't too interested in the premium sound system with built in satellite. I had a store bought satellite radio in my 2001 Beetle and then I drove a 2009 Honda Accord with a built in satellite and my old store bought radio worked much better than the built in one. I was *always* losing the signal in the Honda. So when I got my new Beetle, I didn't care about getting it with the sound/satellite and all that, but.........after seeing a video that showed how the Fender sound system worked and the touch screen and all that, it kind of got me thinking about it.
I guess it depends on what you like, but why is there no plain old "Rock" station? There's classic rock, garage rock, mellow rock, alternative rock, album rock, heavy metal, hard rock, but no "Rock". I've gone back to listening to the local radio stations and playing my own via the SD Card. Don't think I'll be paying the $15 to keep Sirius after the 3 month trial is over.
But back to the Fender itself... I didn't really mention what I thought of the audio quality. It is excellent. Simple adjustments for treble, mid, and bass. And it has a lot of bass, with that slimline sub in the trunk. More that enough distortion-free volume. I would say to spring for it. Won't be disappointed.
Yeah if you listen to Sirius you won't notice the difference because Sirius' quality is below that of what any stereo can reproduce. If you listen to anything other than Sirius though, the Fender system is hands down the best one I've heard south of an Audi's Bang and Olufsen. It's that good.
I'm impressed with the Fender system, and I'm married to an audiophile!
I do listen to Sirius, but mostly stream from my phone, or regular radio. The system gets LOUD- haven't gotten over 23..... Really digging it!

My Beetle has the Fender system, and it sounded good, but i wasn't aware of just how good it was-until I went for a ride in another new Beetle with the regular sound system. No comparison-the Fender setup is awesome.
The Fender sound system in my Beetle is the best I've owned as well. It's even better than the premium sound in my last car - a 2011 BMW 328i.
I refuse to deal with Sirius due to their horrible customer service. I've had the service in several cars. Once you find your favorite channels and listen for a while, it becomes very repetitive.
Hubby had nightmares dealing with Sirius/XM when he transferred service, so I was dreading it!
It took one phone call, 2 different people, then I had to wait until the day of the "change".
Well, it happened today. There was a notification on the screen, and that was it.
This was the first longer trip for hubby to get the Fender system, and he loves it. SO glad I waited for it!
