Thread: FS: 1988 Jetta Slalom, blue, 174K kms, London, ON

  1. 05-24-2012 06:05 PM #1
SOLD to a good new home, I will miss her... thanks C.

    Year- 1988
    Model- Jetta Slalom
The Slalom was a Canada-only special edition for the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. It was a décor package on a base level Jetta that added features like GTI-style 14” wheels, a deep chin spoiler, trunk spoiler, skibag, sunroof, unique cloth trim, heated body-colour mirrors, and four different paint colours.

Mileage- 174,XXXkms (odo only shows 86,6XX on it, it died at 87,565 (shortly after I bought the car) and was replaced by the dealer and started at zero.

Purchased in 1995, I am only the second owner. I Have all original VW paperwork (service manual, owners manual etc) as well as all receipts for most of the parts bought over the years. Car hasn't seen winter in 10 years.

    Colour- Orly Blue (LP5Z)

    THE GOOD:

Engine - 1.8L 8V RV w/272 Shrick cam and adjustable gear, Neuspeed/K&N intake, Bonrath PowerRohr intake tube, DigiFAST chip in 1992 Bosch ECU, powdercoated valve cover

Emissions - passes every two years with little problem (it did fail once, had a bad plug), I have all the e-test results on file.

Exhaust - VW dual outlet manifold, Techtonics dual downpipe + hi-flow cat + 2¼” stainless-steel cat-back with resonator and Thrush muffler

Transmission - swapped from 3-speed auto to 5-speed 9A manual with Redline MT-90, homemade short shift, mk3 weighted rod and all new bushings

Suspension - FK coilovers, Neuspeed 22mm rear swaybar, Neuspeed front stressbar, some poly bushings front and rear

Brakes - Pagid front pads, Summit Racing adjustable rear proportioning valve, Neuspeed braided flex lines, new hard lines to rear, new front calipers, new rear drum cylinders

Wheels and Tires- OEM Corrado 15x6 steel wheels (painted grey) and Kumho Ecsta 195/45-15 tires. Also will include four 14" steels with worn out tires that were only used to park the car on over the winter.

Exterior/Body - late model big bumper skin swap (small bumper rebars are still underneath for easy swap back to NA smalls), painted hard plastic trunk spoiler (not the spongy one), OEM-style yellow foglights, relayed Hella ecode aero headlights w/LED city lights, Hella smoked ecode taillights w/euro bulb trays and euro re-wiring, rear fog light, homemade monowiper linkage, Mattig badgeless grille, MHW blue-tinted side repeaters and front bumper marker lenses, grey-tinted banana lights, genuine Fuba Beta-flex D amplified roof antenna, Votex sunroof deflector, Jamex hood struts, alarm system, Armor door handle plates, paint is mostly original (there was work done to fix rust on the trunk and bottom of the doors prior to me owning it)

Interior - all original with the addition of homemade white-face gauges, blue LED lighting in place of all factory cluster/switch lights, MOMO Monte Carlo steering wheel, OEM first aid kit with factory trunk mount bracket, Duostyling volt gauge, fire extinguisher

Audio - a mix of Clarion (headunit), Blaupunkt (front component speakers), Hi-Fonics (amps), Pioneer (6x9’s) and Cerwin Vega (10” dual voice coil in custom ported boxes x 2)

Will also include a Bentley manual and many spare parts including factory airbox, taillights, headlights, badged grille and various other MK2 bits and pieces from the past 17 years of scouring parts cars and wreckers.

    THE BAD:
    - Reverse lights don't work. Wiring was not done at the time of the transmission swap
    - I believe the rear beam body mount bushings are at the end of their life
    - The driver seat - side bolster has collapsed, the release cable for rear seat entry is broken, and there's a small crack in the vinyl
    - Power mirrors have stopped working

I've known this car for 15 of its 17 years with the current owner. Other cars are embarrassed to be parked next to this one because it's so clean!

    Holy crap!

Scott, I'm crying (a little) inside...

This is the cleanest mk2 coupe in SWO bar none! I should pop can the Atlantic and buy this instead!

Bring the car by, and we'll solve that back up light problem toute suite! Then it will be 100% certified!

Sweet car!!! I like the colour too...dont think ive ever seen it before. I have a Pacific edition, and it is a weird dark blue with a hint of green in it. I think they were trying to get it the colour of the pacific ocean, but its not a very good colour I've was thinking of just switching it to black, but this is a good alternative, and no to far off the current colour it is now....hmm. DO you happen to have any more pics of it? THanks!!
I have LOTS of bits and pieces from mk2 and mk3 parts cars. PM me!!
