Xenons/19's now $1000 option on ALL Turbos!

My mind is blown. I just dropped my GLI off for service and the Service Manager told me they had a Beetle out back I "HAD to see. Red, turbo, great looking." he grabs a salesman to take me to see it, I turn the corner, and there's what looks like a loaded Turbo without a sunroof. I thought it was one of the oddball cars coming out of Puebla; NOPE.

Salesman tells me the xenons and 19's are available as an option on ALL turbos. Sure enough this is a base turbo with cloth, standard radio, no sunroof or keyless. Wow!

My base model turbo has the dsg, unfortunately the paddles are only available on the loaded car with all the crap on the steering wheel, gonna have to see about buying one and retrofiting the paddles to my barren wheel.

This IS good news. I already knew that the turbo Beetles had the proper CECM to handle the additions. Do you think this could now also be added/installed at the dealership?

I believe one way to make this determination, is to inspect the harness connected to the back of the halogen headlamps. If the harness coming from the vehicle has more than 5 leads coming from it (like 10 leads) then the upgrade would be easy.

I thought it was already an option on all turbos? We've had several base model Turbos with Xenons/19s.

This. I was shocked. And thrilled. Now I'd be perfectly content in a base Turbo with the xenons.

I live in Maryland and have been trying to find a base turbo with this package. Looking at the 05/08/12 price and order guide, it looks like this is no longer an option on the base turbo:

Any suggestions on how to track down one of these. The dealers around here have not been all that helpful?

Try looking outside of your immediate area. If they are available, one will turn up. You may want to try Northern Virginia...

Even though I did not purchase/was not interested in a Turbo, the 2012 2.5L Beetle with the options I wanted was hard to come by in my area. I happened to search near my work in Alexandria and found one right away. They even delivered to my work. How's that for service???

I'm guessing that is a fairly new option and not many of the dealers know about/or have one yet. I don't see many 2012 Beetles in my area. In fact, I don't believe I've seen a turbo with the Xenon/LEDs yet.

Until then I won't buy one. I'm seeing Xenons available on much cheaper cars now. It's no longer an exotic unheard of option for something in this price class.

btw, I've seen base turbos with this option, and loaded turbos with this option (as these features will be standard on the 2013 loaded model), but never a sun/sound version with this option. Interesting..

It's just an illusion because the LEDs are hard to capture with a camera given their frequency of light
