I've been having shoulder pain for a couple of days. I work out at a cross fit box......after a wod consisting of rowing and bench I've had pain in my right shoulder. I can't even identify where on the shoulder is coming from. The only tender to the touch area is in my armpit area. Most of the pain and soreness radiates out to my right. I'm trying to pinpoint it. Any time I've gone to the doctor with muscle injury its always "um you should ice it".

Trying to rule out rotator cuff or anything serious.

Pain seems to be the worst when I'm standing with my arm by my side.

Tried KT tape for general shoulder pain and it actually made it worse.

I'm prone to DOMS but its been over 4 days and the pain is consistent.

sounds like a rotator cuff injury to me, but I'm not an expert on it. The exercises you did on that WOD all stress the muscles around the shoulder.

make sure you stretch your shoulders out with bands before working out, also take fish oil, I take 12/1000 mg a day. It helps me recover quickly. Also do mobility WODs, mobilitywod.com I had a couple problems with my hip and this helped me out

alright - so.....looks like i had a serious case of DOMS. I did some icing and had been taking an anti inflamatory. Sunday morning I woke up and the pain was nearly gone, by the evening it was completely gone. couldnt even get it to reoccur by moving it in extremes. i skipped working out Tuesday, tomorrow morning I am though, and am going to take it easy on the arm just in case!

I had something similar a month or so ago. Pretty much woke up with severe rotator cuff pain. I was convinced I'd be at the docs that week. Anyways, it went away in a day or two. I did start doing a serious shoulder warm-up routine since then though. I haven't had any issues, and have also noticed that at the beginning of the warm up my left shoulder (the one that hurt) clicks, every rotation, but by the end, it's barely noticeable/nonexistent.

You need to give your shoulders a rest and work out other parts. I used to focus heavily on my chest and I'd always have shoulder pain. I have a much better split routine now and the pain has disappeared.

I've got pain from benching too in my left shoulder. The spot that hurts for me if I press down on it just in front of where the trap attaches to the very top of the shoulder. The pain radiates to underneath the collar bone when I extent my arm forward and to the right. I bench once a week, after a week of the pain is nearly gone, then comes back right away when I bench.

It all started one day when the dumbells I wanted were being used, bench was being used, so I hopped on the smith machine to do my chest workout. It's going on 6 months now. I keep hoping it well feel better, but after every bench it hurts again. I'm icing it right now as I type this. With as much progress I've made I don't want to take off chest work outs only to end up back at square one. So I'm thinking of going to the Dr. and getting a cortisone shot.

I have/had a pain in my right shoulder from working out kinda just came out of know where.
it was tender through the top of the shoulder/arm point and sometimes down to the inner part of my shoulder blade. It actually hurt most when I laid down and sleep on my right side. and when I raise my arm straight up. I started taking an Aleve every morning. so far for the past 4 days it seem to have diminished somewhat. you may want to try that. could be an inflamed/irritated tendon

This common complaint is voiced by about one of every five adults at some time in their lives. In younger people, athletic injuries are most often responsible, but in the rest of us, normal wear and tear take their toll over the years — which is why shoulder pain is actually more common at the age of 70 than 30.

I'm sure some people on here can comment more indepthly, but, I believe that nearly all shoulder pain on bench comes down to poor form. Lower your weight, find a good grip, pull your shoulder blades back, and keep your elbows in.

I'd also find a good shoulder warm up routine, and a strengthening program for your rotator cuffs. If it isn't a form issue, you are going to want to repair whatever you've damaged.

My cousin was visiting, he is an orthopedic surgeon, and he diagnosed me with "weight lifters shoulder". He said, lighten the weight, take anti-inflammatory meds, narrow the grip on the bench, place a rolled up towel underneath the barbell so I don't go down as far. If pain persists get a cortisone shot.

I got the same diagnosis today, an Acromioclavicular joint injury, from pressing caused it to stretch a little. Though I have to go back for the ultrasonic guided injection next week.

I'm off to the gym now to go do some squats.

Just got back from my shot. It was cool because they use an ultrasound and was able to direct the needle directly to the inflammation. I know they say its supposed to take a day or two but I instantly felt relief of the pain. I did feel a little woozy after though because I'm such a puss when it come to needles. I don't know why I react like that, the injection barely hurt.

its its soreness, its just DOMS

but if there is a sharp pain anywhere w/in the shoulder girdle movements (flex/ext, IR/ER, abduction/adduction), could be a minor injury

some states have direct access to a physical therapist (you don't need a doctor's referral)
