I finally got fed up with the Jetta, and got myself a slightly used 2010 Saab 9-3 2.0T. Crazy? Maybe, but I've been a Saab guy since my first car, and I figured now is probably the last chance to have one that isn't all used up.

Parts are a concern, yes. That's why I decided to go with the newer lower miles base-ish model over the older higher mileage Aero versions with the more rare V6 in the same price range.

Still crazy, but it's what I wanted, and you only live one, right?

For those curious, I got it from a Chevrolet dealer. They had it listed for $19,000 and offered me $800 for the Jetta. I ended up paying $16,500 for the Saab and got $2,330 for the Jetta and put $2000 down. According to the dealer, that was basically auction value for both. It was a $30,000 car two years ago.

The Jetta had 108,000 miles and an infuriating check engine light that cost me a lot of money to never actually get fixed. I cleared it before driving to the dealer.

edit: and a broken front splitter, and cracked windshield.

it looks like they raided the GM parts bin to build this. i highly doubt youll have trouble finding parts.

That said, I like the design. as a Saab lover it was a god move to snag one now. Enjoy it.

you can still get a fender for a 1995 Saab. not because Saab makes it, aftermarket companys make these things. Unless he keeps this car 15+ years he wont have any issues getting parts.

Yes, it may make sense for a company to produce fenders for saabs back in 1995 since, well, the company was still around.

The chances of a company stepping in to make fenders for a new one is prob pretty low.
The company is not around and people are scared of buying them. The demand is not there.

They made them, they are out there driving around, and insurance companies need to buy parts. With no OEM factory making them, it creates an opportunity for aftermarket companies to corner the market.

Offering $800 for an 11 year old 100k mile Jetta is a bit silly. Glad you got the offer up a bit.

GM will be supporting them for at least 10 years from the last date they sold GM 9-3s.
