Hey all. I just traded in my wife's 2004 Altima 3.5 and my 2011 turbo CC on a pair of Passat SE's. The car is beautiful and the Tiptronic is smooth, albeit, not as much as the DSG, but the lack of the 2.0T is kicking me in the nuts. Somebody please tell me there is at least an intake to wake up this inline 2.5. PLEASE!

They make a short runner intake. However don't know if it's been installed on a passat yet.

There are some software flashes available for earlier Jetta 2.5, so maybe that'll be an option in the future. Not much gain to be had, so probably not worth the $$.

And don't bother with a K&N or similar filter... the stock filter flows more than enough air for the engine. The tune is torque based so just letting more air into the engine won't make more power anyway.

Thanks all. I didnt think there was much out there. I appreciate the thoughts on the filter too. I almost always use a K & N drop in i Im not going to buy an intake, but it looks like that wont help on this powerplant. I apprecate it.

Yeah, I just saw that myself. So how does this play in to the comments above? Here is what ModBargains (via Injen) has to say about this intkae for the B7 2.5I-5.

The first performance modification you should make to the VW Passat needs to be the Injen SP Air Intake. By upgrading the air intake, you are allowing more air to flow into the engine, making the engine on the VW Passat make more power. In fact, you will see power gains of 6.5 hp and 6.78 lb/ft torque to the wheels after installing the Injen SP Air Intake for VW Passat. By replacing the factory air intake system with the less restrictive bends and cone air filter of the Injen SP Air Intake, the VW Passat engine will work less, increasing power and improving the gas mileage.

If the increased airflow makes more hp, and more torque, would that negate the comments about about destroying the stock torque-y setup with a K & N drop-in? Thoughts?

I'd be curious to see real world numbers and opinions! In past experience with N/A cars with intakes, the way they are designed is to add primarily to the top end. S to notice any significant differnce you really have to rev it high and drive it hard. Because of that on some cars until things are really flowing, you can lose some of the grunt on the low end, to gain a little bit more for higher flow on the top end.

I agree. To add to your point...My experience with high flow intakes is a reduction in torque in exchange for the slight gain in hp at high end.

That being said, I like the sound of a high flow intake.
