Mk1 vs. Mk3.5...??? your choice, all things equal...

So...i have NOT bought the car yet ! I figured i'd better ask this question because here in SW Ohio,
fixer uppers are all about the same price. So , if you had a choice which would you go for?

alot of years of technology between issues...
Which are easier to work on? ( i enjoy wrenching, i aint good...but i'm learning...LOL )

Parts? Driving?

anyone owned both? differences?

I had a both. You can search my name and see threads on them. I would post links but I'm on my phone. Ill tell you this though. I was beyond upset when I had to get rid of my mk1 Gli. I sold my cabrio to move to Munich Germany with my fiance. Now I'm here and getting ready to buy a new car. All my attention is on finding another mk1. They are so much fun to drive. Damn. Now I'm upset again thinking of my Gli. I need another one soon.

i bought my first mk1 a couple months ago and wasnt sure if i was going to like it .. so i found a killer deal on a mk3 two weeks after and bought that too.. I sold the mk3 and kept the mk1 and have ZERO regrets.

mk1 is the way to go. simpler setup, easy to work on. and parts are dirt cheap

not to wax nostalgic on ya,,, but back in the 80's i sold automotive aftermarket parts to dealers, and my best account was a VW dealership, and they always had a cabriolet on the showroom floor
by the door. i have been lusting, ERRRR wanting one for a long time... LOL

Truthfully it depends on what you want for a project car, i have an 89 cabby that i decided was too much if a hassle to deal with cis so ive been stuffing a AAA vr6 in to have the best of both worlds, the feel of the old cabby with a bit
Less handling but a lot more power.... And because i have been trained in the age of fuel injection a lot easyer for me to personally work on....
But turthfully what do you want, speed, handling, manual fuel systems or electronic fuel injection, old or new styling theirs a
Million different reasons why you could want eather.... I just decided i wanted both in one. And thats what you should consider when you decide which direction to go
