I'm looking for suggestions on how to find a problem relating to the #21 fuse which continues to burn out.

I first noticed the problem when I got in the vehicle and the dome light did not turn off. The dome light normally has a delay and then turns off after about 20 seconds. I also noticed that the clock and trip milage gauges were out (they usually stay on when the van is off). The Instrument cluster lights were out and the radio wouldn't turn on. In addition, I later learned that the OBD II scan would not work.

    #21 Fuse is connected to...

Instrument cluster, interior lights, radio, B+ (battery positiv voltage) for on board diagnostic

I've started by testing the door switches. All of these seem to be making good contact.
I am not sure how the delayed dome light works and wonder if this is a relay of some sort that might be the culprit?

Any suggestions for finding this short??

    Thanks,

    John G

The delayed dome light works with a capacitator. When the cap runs out of juice the light turns off. Good luck.
    Also is the stereo stock?

Ok, here is the latest on the short circuit issue with fuse #21...

After eliminating all other components on that fuse circuit (interior lights and the radio), we determined that the problem was coming from the Instrument Cluster. Not having the expertise to determine exactly what was problematic with the cluster we sent it off for analysis/repair to BBA Reman.

Unfortunately, BBA's response was simply that the cluster was beyond repair. No more information was available.

So, we are looking for suggestions on how to proceed from here...

Does anyone know of an instrument repair shop that would be able to fix this cluster?
Or, do you have any suggestions on buying a new one, other than the VW dealership?

    Any insights?
