    2008 VW EOS
    05-28-2012 02:26 AM #1
Hello I am a current 2008 VW EOS owner with an automatic DSG model. While I love the car I am seriously thinking about getting the Scion FR-S. The EOS lately is giving me some issues like a rumbling noise that some people here says it a possible bearing? I do love the EOS but most of the time I don't even put the top down, I would like to get a smaller sports car at first I thought Miata but was looking for a coupe. The EOS is almost paid off and I am willing to sell it. I have been hearing about the Scion and I believe it is the perfect car for me (love to get one in white). I would love to test drive one and there is a Scion dealer here in Whittier that may have one in stock. Does anyone know if they are marking up these cars in Whittier? Also my VW EOS is a DSG, I do not know how to drive a stick shift I was wondering if the FR-S is also DSG? Also anyone here coming from an EOS that is planning to get the Scion? I sure like the car but again I need to really see it and drive one in person. If any FR-S owners here I would love to hear from you. Thanks

Don't do it..it would be an epic downgrade in my opinion. The Scion FR-S or Subaru BRZ is an over-hyped, overpriced and slow econobox. While it may look like one, it is NOT a sports car one bit. Yes it will probably handle better than your EOS but your car has better materials, faster in a straight line and gets better fuel economy. I am not sure about the dealer in Whittier marking the car up but I wouldn't doubt it. They are probably marking it up around $8,000 (there was a thread here about a dealer in Florida with that much markup). Out the door you are looking at at $40,000 car..Can you afford that?? I would highly suggest looking into a V6 Mustang with the performance package. For less money you will get more "bang" for your buck. By the way, what do you do for a living anyway?

^ don't pay attention to this one. He's not very bright. And he's a liar. The fuel economy of the fr-s is higher than the eos in the city and on the highway. Every reviewer says it's a revelation to drive. The markup has ranged from just msrp and more, people tend to focus on the extreme cases. You really can't go wrong with the frs/brz. I suggest you visit the ft86 forums, you'll get much more info.

Don't pay attention to this one ^...Please search this forum about the Scion FR-S/BRZ its been discussed to death and to summarize it, its basically a nice handling car but with an inadequate engine. I guarantee you that you will NOT be tracking this car or autocross so what you have left is basically a slow car. Your EOS has a turbo with over 200 lbs of torque..the Scion has barely 150. There are NO turbo option! And to answer your question about the transmission, your DSG is light years ahead of the Scion's (which is non-DSG).

I don't think an automatic Scion FR-S is the right car for a stripper. Keep the EOS.

And somehow this was necessary to say? inb4ucanttakejoke

I would probably say to expand your options as far as an automatic sporty coupe. However, the FRS is available in 6 speed automatic, I suggest test driving one and see if you like it.

    looks cool too.

    teklord be trollin'

The 6-speed auto in the FR-S is supposedly a modified Aisin 8-speed unit from the Lexus IS-F, but pared down 2 gears. It is not a DSG unit but rather a conventional auto.

Get what you want. It is your money afterall.

However it is getting harder to get a FR-S, so if you want one you need to move quickly. Some places are adding insane markups. Don't pay it. Better to wait until the frenzy dies down. But if you can find a regularly priced one, go for it. Don't know if DSG is available.

Most people on ft86club have been able to find them for MSRP without too much trouble. A few places are doing big markups, but many are not.

Either way, I think the FRS/BRZ twins are awesome, but you should go test drive one and see for yourself if you like them. Personally, I would recommend getting a manual with this car (it really isn't that hard to learn), but from what I hear the auto in it is quite good as well.

Not a coupe per se but what about a Cooper S? If I could fit in one, I'd love to own that car. Or the Fiat 500 Abarth? Either one might give a little more zip and they are both nice cars.
Touareg Hybrids are pretty nice, and the warm fuzzies I felt while driving the hybrid was actually the fingers of all of the German tax payers trying to reach into my wallet to get their money back. (Brendan@bwalkauto)
