I HAVE A COMPLETELY STOCK 1991 VW FOX, 4 SPEED, 2 DOOR, WITH THE 1.8L LONGEVITY MOUNTED MOTOR, MADE IN BRAZIL.

HOW DO I INCREASE MY HORSE POWER?

Here's a link to the FAQ that's a good basis for information about increasing power.

    http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...2#post13099249

As with many other Volkswagens from this era, you need to start with the exhaust first.

Read the FAQs first, then come back and ask more specific questions about what you're trying to achieve.

first do a good tune-up, make sure everything is adjusted right.
second, advance the timing and run higher octane. cheapest way to make a car quicker.
third exhaust. get a dual downpipe and manifold. get the TT cat and cat-back.
fourth, install a bigger cam. 268 is fun and easy to live with.
fifth, is '91 digi or cis? i can never remember. I think my old Fox was a '91 (or was it a '90) and it was CIS-E. Well depending on what fuel system you have, make your intake cooler and more free flowing.
    sixth, tune it again.
seventh...realize you still want more power

Once you've got the exhaust flowing, there is lots of power to find in the head.

I have the "DIGI" intake system. I have always had older cars and trucks and honestly this is my first of my 5 vehicles to be fuel injected. Its also my first VW haha (but i can say after driving my friends 92 jetta, an 86 GT1, a 92 Corrado G60 I am right where I belong) Anyway, When I saw that the "DIGI" system had more that just an air filter I became less appt to mess with it and get an intake sooooooo what i did in the mean time till i figure it out, was put a stainless steal tube that grabs the air from my grill and pushes it into my port for my air box, I left some room for when I am idling and honestly im amazed at the difference at higher speeds. its basically forced induction without turbos, or fans, just natural air.

I work at a metal shop and got 2 nd a half inch stainless steel tubing and calculated all measurements and bends and put a nice flow-master muffler and tip on it. It comes out right before the left back tire. looks clean. sounds legit.

    Did some small stuff,

Next thing is rims and tires. Im gonna go with 14x8 offset 15 and offset 20 wheels with 195/45/14 tires. WILL THAT WORK? I dont want to adjust suspension or cut anything, no poking no nothing.

Apparently there is a performance chip available for the digi fuel injection, and it makes a noticeable difference. Some one around here used one on a Fox, forget who though....

Umm, pretty sure there ain't no way you're getting an 8" wide rim under the stock Fox fenders without poking or cutting. At the very least you'll need to get a baseball bat and roll the fender lip significantly.

That offset is also way too low. Most wheels that fit well on a Fox are around 5.5 to 6" deep with an ET30-ish offset or higher. I think my Tarantulas are 13x5.5 ET38 IIRC.

If you don't go super low, they should be perfect. I run 15x7" ET 15 in the front and ET 10 in the rear and I am really low. Run the ET 20s in the front ET 15s in the rear.

I'm looking to get a set of 15x7's too, after I complete my shortened coil-overs and steering arms. How low are you? and do you have any pics with your current setup?
