What's this? Porsche's new Camry fighter?
Do you enjoy old cars and long-winded stories about them? If your answer is "yes", then you might enjoy my blogpage. Try it here: http://vwlarry.blogspot.com . Leave a comment, too; I love feedback! Thanx for reading.

From what I see there, yes. But then again, let's see what changes between drawing and production.

oops... Yes, it's an E-class/5-series/A6 competitor:

Does it look good? Yes. Does Porsche need a second sedan, after also having an SUV? NO!!!!![]()
#11
Nope Id be happy if it was financially possible for Porsche to exist only making 911 variants.

Hate to tell you this...

We get a Q5 here. We don't get an A5 Sportback. I would love for Porsche to build a mini-Panamera if only to fill that niche. They're already cloning a next-gen Q5, so why not give us another 'car' to go with the SUV?
That rendering looks great too. There's a lot of good-look potential in this theoretical class:

I respectfully disagree... Porsche has the ability to make some pretty fantastic practical vehicles.
"But who could have guessed that this new Turbo S could outrun a 911 GT3 and equal the 3:00.7 lap time of the Ford GT on a racecourse as demanding as VIR?"
Entire Article:We’ve clocked the regular Turbo version of Dr. Seuss’s Porsche at 3.3 seconds to 60 mph, so we know it is absurdly quick for its size. But who could have guessed that this new Turbo S version could outrun a 911 GT3 and equal the 3:00.7 lap time of the Ford GT on a racecourse as demanding as VIR?
Not us—even after we climbed from behind the wheel. True, it has 550 horsepower, but the kick dulls after a few laps. You’re left with a serene and heavy-feeling five-door that’s so long it feels like you’re pulling a trailer. We nicknamed it the “The Bus.”
The Bus does the unexpected. Its steering transmits those minute signals that relay available grip. The rear end comes around if you’re sloppy, but it’s easily catchable. So the Panamera goads you into using all it’s got. In the climbing esses, the section of the track that contributes to the graying of a few hairs on every pass, the Panamera was unflappable. Sure, some cars are faster through there, but few do it at the Panamera’s 116.4-mph average with such utter calm.
Like all Porsches, the brakes are tireless, and with standard all-wheel drive, even your sister could master corner exits.
This is not to say the Panamera Turbo S is perfect. The seven-speed PDK shifts quickly, but it’s too willing to overrule the driver’s commands. And the gear indicator is buried in the gauge cluster, so it’s tough to read at a glance. And then there’s the Porsche’s styling and its nearly $200,000 price tag.

Well, to be fair the Ford GT is a design that is two generations of supercar ago (Was it not built to compete with the 360? We've had the 430 AND the 458 already). Tires and traction control have come a long way since then - I don't think the GT even had any performance enhancing computers.
A friend of mine has a Panamera Turbo and it is quite surprising what he can keep up with on a road course.

Looks better than the Panamera but I don't think they need another sedan

I recall that some articles were mentioning the reason the Panamera rear end is so ugly is that someone high up in the project required that a person of a certain height must fit in the back seat, so they raised the rear roofline until it did. I can't find the source, but I imagine that this car would fall susceptible to the same requirements.

That would be one boring car company. The only thing to look forward to year after year would be trim levels, color, and minor tweaks. The brand would become as stale as Panoz. That is like saying you would want Ford to make only the Mustang and ignore the F-150 and the Taurus.

It was Wendelin Wiedeking, the 6'2" CEO of Porsche:
The fool. If that car didnt look like that in the butt and had a little less headroom I bet they'd be selling hand over fist. The whole segment is about style. He was actually a pretty competent CEO right up until the end, when his bid to take over VW crashed and burned.A shock is the roominess of the back-seat area. Porsche boss Wendelin Wiedeking, a tall and substantial man, had barked about cramped headroom, so design chief Michael Mauer raised the roofline by 0.8 inch. Small as that sounds, it likely accounts for the awkward look to the Panamera’s rear quarters.

Renderings look fine. I'm all for porsche opening up their product line. As long as they make the rear look better than the Panamerica, the rear is too bulbous, it's looks like a pregnant cockroach.

(golf clap) vw is the new chevy. we own way to many companies, and are slowly forcing them to all make the same things in different skins. its completely possible for Porsche to exist as a sports car only company, but someone at vw sees dollar signs if they can sell a 4 door m3 figher and a suv. makes me sick. just buy a rs4.

Ha. "Slightly" they said. Those two facts drove the entire program -- and are the reason why the Panamera looks slightly awkward in profile.
Thoughts expressed are those of the poster and not those of some long dead guy who I choose to speak for me.

Few people understand the psychology of dealing with a highway traffic cop. A normal speeder will panic and immediately pull over to the side. This is wrong. It arouses contempt in the cop heart. Make the bastard chase you. He will follow.

Why such strong feelings? The Panamera, regardless of its polarizing styling, is a type of a car that a car guy should like. It's not a beauty queen, but I would take it over a Bentley or a baby Rolls without thinking twice about it, and never look back. Ultimately, Porsche is still making interesting cars for people that like driving them. There is quite a stark difference between Chevy of the 90's badge engineering practices and Porsche today.

because I wouldn't buy it, if I wanted a 4 door sports car I would a rs6 or a merc or a bmw, if I want a Porsche it will be a two door and rwd. if I want a truck I will buy one thats well not like that.
regardless of how well the Panamera drives, its the same in my mind as the cayenne, its a money maker its not a Porsche its a car to sell to people that want the badge to show to there freinds, so they can say they drive a porsche with out having to actually own a two door sports car. . but that being said my biggist gripe is vw rebadgeing there cars to all there brands/ and or competing with themselves, and thats just dumb.
