As far as I know you can either lighten a flywheel or not lighten a flywheel..... Lol.

A flywheel should never wear out, lightened or not... if you get one lightened and it wears out or rattles, whoever did it did a sh*tty job. Lightening your flywheel is always a good option for a bit more power. Less weight = less resistance = more power.
    Doing it right is overrated.

I've got an 8.4lb ACT FW on my Mk2VR6 and love it. There is some gear rattle at idle, but nothing to worry about. I love the feel and in no way feel it affects the drivability. The clutch and PP will have more to do with chatter and drivability. I have a 6 puck sprung hub ACT clutch and it's a pain to drive. I don't mind it, but it chatters ALOT and is ON/OFF so easing off the line is almost impossible. And it will not have any effect on how fact the clutch wears out. That's all up to how you drive and how soft the disc is.

For more info on what I mean by gear rattle, read this: Gear Rattle

My 2.9L BVH build and the machine shop #%@- up that almost ruined it all.

All depends what you're looking for. There's different types of lightweight flywheels. There's aluminum and steel. Also there's dual mass and single mass flywheels. I personally have an aluminum lightweight flywheel from AASCO Motorsports with a replacable friction plate. Lightweight flywheels are for faster revs and also rpms drop faster and can also cause chatter. It all depends on what you're looking for.
