Borla Cat back exhaust arrived and installed today
Thanks to Alvin and the guys at Borla, this is one of the first production units, installed on my car just in time for Fastivus next weekend. I have ran Borla units / mufflers on previous cars, the quality is always top notch, and the sound is very rewarding.
The unit is a 2.75 Stainless steel cat-back, mates right up the the stock downpipe.
The tips look amazing, perfectly sized so they will not hit the rear valance, and do not stick out far either. Very happy with the purchase.
I will have some sound clips posted by this weekend, here are some pictures for now.
Sound clip, I recorded a few different clips for you guys.

wow amazing work so far!
i have a question for you though. how much gap do you have between the front fender and the tire? i've got the exact same specs for my wheels and i'm going to be buying coilovers soon. i need to make sure my car wont rub like crazy. i've already dont the fender screw mod but i haven't rolled my fenders.
#75
About half an inch, perhaps less.
I really need to find some level ground to measure ground to fender, I measured and wrote it down before but I ended up raising the car slightly due to rubbing.

Sound clip of my exhaust setup at Willow Springs International Raceway - Fastivus this past weekend.
Thanks to William for hosting it,
Scorpion Catless Downpipe 3-inch mated to the 2.75 Borla cat-back.
I love the way it sounds, so I threw the goPro on the hatch to capture sound

Since you dont like the yellow mount i remember a guy in the mk4 forums who put his in dye for around a day and turned the yellow to black![]()
I like your progress.
#82
Thanks for the tip, though if I were to pull the mounts again I will much rather go with a more aggressive mount setup.

Thanks, I did see your car rolling through the pit area on Sunday, the color matched wheels looked great, I almost thought they were aftermarket until your car came to a stop
Thanks! Power definitely feels good, though I am interested in seeing how your car will feel with what you have done to it![]()

I would totally order a DSG TTRS if I could, US is manual only though.. Even a DSG Golf R would be awesome. I enjoy manual much more, but the DSG is undeniably fast.
Drove a TTRS tonight.. I am hooked. 4 months to special order the color I want, putting a deposit down this weekend or next. Someone buy my Golf R!

What exactly blew you away about the TTRS? Obviously thats the better car, but I would have thought with all your mods your R must be a total hoot to drive. Could you elaborate a bit more about the differences btwn the ttrs and your R? I know they're totally different cars and I think the TTRS must be pretty phenomenal. Still, I would think with your level of mods the R must be pretty insane.
I've been sorta keeping the TTRS in the back of my mind as I wasn't thrilled with the stock R, but now that I'm at state 1+, I'm pretty thrilled with my R right now.
So can you review the ttrs in a bit more detail as compared to the R?

Loud during WOT, but ~80mph on the freeway, there is audible sound, but the stereo can drown it out with ease, and it is easy to talk over.
There are 3 big things that are making me jump ship;
The interior. In the Golf, you sit upright, row gears, it feels like your almost in a lawn chair. Not really a problem, or you may not notice it, until you jump into the TT. Instantly you are in a coupe, your feet / legs extend in front of you. Feels like your in a real sports car (which you really are) The shifter is in a better spot, its a little smaller inside, the best way I can describe it is like your in an airplane cockpit.
The sound. Even with just a sport exhaust, the note of the 5cylinder is amazing. You can hear the turbo, but its a good mixture between the two. The R stock had just the soundaktor, maybe some turbo spool. Catless, the R sounds loud / really amazing at WOT. But I can imagine the TTRS would sound soo much better with downpipes / exhaust.
The whole 'RS' thing. Will hold its value way better than our cars, limited to 1400 units over here. Its definitely a lot better of a car than the TT and TT-S. 360hp out of the box, its just a step above the 'R.
Definitely an alternative, makes about the same power as a 2+ R (my car feels quicker in the top end, but then again the TTRS I drove was a stock car.)

Wow, Tyler I can't believe you're selling your R after your masterful and classy mods. There is no question in my mind, that the TT-RS is a couple of steps above the R. I absolutely love the car - the interior is gorgeous and so is the exterior. But, and it's a big but, for $65k, I would expect it to be a better car - all around. I'd jump at the chance to buy one, but as a second car. Buying one isn't in my financial cards.I need utility for my lifestyle - that's why I bought the hatch. Anyway, I am totally green with envy. I know you'll love the car. I hope you'll still contribute to the forum. Why do you have to order one, there are several in southern calif. Two in Mission Viejo alone.
BTW, I'll buy your CH-Rs and borla exhaust.![]()

My local dealer is Audi Mission Viejo, but they only have white and black. I want the white but it has to be leather, not suede. Also if I were to order it would have to be Solar OrangeWhich the exclusive colors are a 4 month wait..
So, I decided to keep the R. Four months is a LONG time. It makes more sense to stay with it, I haven't completed it yet in my opinion, and with this far I might as well go all the way. Dropped it off for some window tint tonight, some good / big plans for it this winter![]()
