Is that a normal CT plate? Grey market car, diplomat car, or temporary resident?

This. I had one for a week in Florida back in January. It wouldn't let you neutral bomb it, but hell if you couldn't floor it in reverse, then drop it into drive and get a little chirp.

Now if these are for rental fleets only, what happens after their tenure? Normally rentals go right to auction. So I'm assuming these can be sold and registered?

Sure. It's just a reskinned Saturn Vue. It's a perfectly legal, crash tested, emissions-certified U.S. domestic vehicle.

Eff that noise. You're lucky if I grace TCL once a week from Offtopicstan to post a death car thread. Something obscure that I haven't seen car related, I'm posting up...sans a search.

Which is the wrong thing to do.

      Right this to do.....

      Wanna make a thread?
Make a search on the info you have.

      found nothing?
      make a thread.

      found something?
is it exactly what you have?
      yes, dont make thread.

      is it diferent?
      yes, make thread.

Is it just me, or are these slightly nicer-looking on the outside than the retail Equinox?

These cars have always kind of laid bare exactly where GM still does certain things inefficiently, or maybe it's just a consequence of being so large. Rather than offering retail models to fleets, they find some random plant that's under capacity and have them produce a unique fleet model. That's how we end up with Captivas, Caprice PPVs, and Classics.

After GM starts selling the retail Chevy "SS" (Zeta-platform Holden Commodore rebadge) they should take the current Caprice PPV and rename it Caprice Classic.

Actually, most of these models are sold as normal models in other countries, for example(and I can't beleive I am explaining this once more). The Chevrolet Captiva is sold in South American as a entry luxury SUV, fully loaded in LTZ form with leather and nav and 19 inch chrome wheels.

It goes head to head with the Ford Edge, Tiguan, etc etc.

I know this, but they're still unique to the North American market - and even with the convergence of some safety/emissions standards and cars being designed for world consumption that still means they're making US-specific models, even if it's just the speedometer and warning labels.

The Caprice is somewhat unique since GM doesn't have any similar models, but again, they're only offering this Captiva to US fleets because the plant where Captivas are made for other markets is under capacity while the plant that makes retail-market Equinoxes is running full steam. And there was some of that logic behind the Caprice PPV as well; the Commodore is flagging in popularity in its home market so it ends up actually being cost effective for GM to build Caprices there and ship them to the US rather than coming up with a new Impala PPV like they've done since '97.

Since it's a reskinned VUE, does it use the Honda motor?

Usually the old one is only on the front. On the rear is almost always the current plate.

We had one as a rental. Well actually, it was my co-worker. He said it was a black Chevy SUV. another coworker thought it was a Tahoe, so there were five us us with suitcases thinking we had a Chevy Tahoe. Valet pulled up in the Captiva, and we all kept looking for something big enough to be the Chevy SUV....

I rented a Captiva a few weeks ago on business.

It is the old Saturn Vue made by GM in Mexico for certain export markets and in the US as Rental Fleet only. The Equinox has been selling very well at retail since its' redesign and the Equinox plant is capacity constrained as a result.

I swore mine was a 4cylinder. I opened the hood as was shocked to see a V6. Lethargic acceleration, noisy, and only 22mpg straight highway (DC to NC). Fit and finish was quite good. Interior has design elements of the Audi A3 and like the A3, had a good looking interior especially considering how much plastic it had. Vinyl seats.

Not bad as a rental unit, but it's power train and driving characteristics leave a lot to be desired.

When these came out, one criticism was the weight. For the exterior size they're quite heavy, hence why it felt like a four and gets crap MPG. I kinda blame Daewoo's influence for that. Seems that it came on the tail end of the Koreans' tendency to design safety by sheer mass and not by lighter but stronger components. The old Kia Sedona/Hyundai Entourage for example were terrible pig MPVs tipping the scales at a curb weight 4800lbs , nearly 5000lbs with a driver aboard.

Within the last month, these things have popped up everywhere in the Northeast - I'm sure it's the same in other parts of the country. I guess the rental car companies got a great deal on them. Might not be the best car, but sure beats a Galant!

whats the deal with the higher trim models? I've seen a few with leather, body-color bumpers and dual exhaust exits? Are those rentals too or are they for retail sales. Sort of embarrassed to say but I've always thought of the 2nd gen VUE as one of best looking smaller CUV's, and the current Captiva IMO looks better than Equinox.
