Also, for doing work. Can't wait to see how this car turns out. Sub'd!

      haha thanks man

The Jetta thread, is a long one. comical at best bc I go through bs after bs to get it to run right.
but when I do, it's smooth sailing from there.
The Cabrio thread, was in the cabby forum and never went long. But after the last phase in there, it got another set of wheels and visited a couple of different shows (Vag fair, Eurothon, h20i, etc) and those pics are from other people on the specific threads, calendars, etc.
edit: one more cabrio thread with an extensive, stupid no start issue, resolved.
      and one for fun.

ON TOPIC: Tomorrow we knock out the clutch and will be changing out the trans fluid for Redline MT-90 from GAP. In an earlier post, I linked what I would be using. Any tips/tricks/ideas/reminders?

Does anyone believe I will have problems installing this kit?
Nope you should be good to go bro. DFQ is a mk3 trans and the kit you got is good for that

Edit: When you get the trans off, look for SMS (self machining syndrome). It'll happen on the inside of the bellhousing right at the diff housing. If you see a hole or any sort of wear there, no bueno. Also check to make sure that your input shaft isn't leaking gear oil onto the clutch disc or the rear main seal causing it to slip.

Sure, sounds good. I've been absent lately but tomorrows gonna be a scorcher so it should be a good one

Let me know if you ever want to get rid of all those blue-stitched goodies, too.

Sounds like a plan! I got those little caps for the holes in the glass too if you need them.

Not even if the woodgrain goodies come out of mine? haha. don't worry it's all good.

Ooh! Yes, bring the caps if they're black.
I might consider the steering wheel.
But the e-brake & boot, no wai.

Caps are black, currently on my car. They stay in and keep water out without any sealant, too. I think you looked at them before.

      anyway, see ya tomorrow

Only if you see SMS is the resolve a new trans. The others you just replace the seal that is leaking obviously.

      Thanks guys
New clutch, pp, fw, manual clutch cable are all in and it feels great.
It is still kinda hard to get into 1st gear...
(relay ball is a nice, new derlin piece, the shaft bushings have been changed, not the orange ball though.)

      old ****

(we kept the trans for now, don't have a replacement bc not sure if necessary)

      new ****

yeah man, here's a dirty one.

I need to pull them out of the car for a thorough cleaning.
Anyone have leads on rubber mats???
Or the rare blue piping GTI mats?
I really want the all weather oem rubber mats.
But everytime I see them, they are already sold.

No way sir, I love these seats and if they clean up nice, they won't move at all.
However, if I get my hands on the euro recaro versions of these, I'm all game.

So, a bad update of sorts:
      The trans is leaking.

But it seems to be leaking from the green cap area (end cap for 5th gear?)
And it's because we pried it off to remove it. We didn't replace it with a new one.
The fluid is clear and definitely smells like trans fluid.

But, it's all good. I have 2 bottles on MT90 on deck, just no new cap yet.
I'll order a new cap, drain and refill and it should be good.

Now, I did the shift link alignment from a couple of good results in search.
Feels A LOT like my other GTI and I was happy.
When I got home after the meet last night though, I had to move cars and the car would NOT go into reverse!

I had to **** with it a lot until I finally got it to click and get it in my driveway.
I'll post pics later of where I set the shifter during alignment and maybe someone can point out a fault or provide a tip on this.

Can you tell me what you have done to get 36mpg per gallon. My motor is from a 97 GTi and tranny too. I have a chip and full exhaust.

      thanks

as for the tranny, that 020 in the late mktrees are POS. when i bought my PB, about 2 weeks after buying it the differential blew up. so if he is having issues, its more than likely gonna need to be replaced.
Get an early 93/94 tranny if you can. decent get up, but geared perfect for 30+ mpg. i get 36 mpg on a regular basis with a lead foot.

umm, not sure if i actually covered that in this or any of my threads.
but search around and you'll find better answers.
in general though, having the right PSI in all your tires helps, how your car runs helps too, so if you have an old fuel filter, a new one can yield you a couple extra miles, new air filter, etc. good luck
