I was reading somewhere that other cars with the w12 had gear boxes with more gears.
Even the Audi's I thought came with 6 speeds. What about differences between our box and the box that stands behind the more powerful turbocharged Bentley's.

Some of this is just curiosity. Options for replacement. Is this same box as NAR 2003 RS6.
Also the discussion on top speeds got me thinking. I believe it was agreed that the torque is electronically limited.
If that was indeed the case wouldn't one of these other boxes allow one to unlimit ones motor.

Also I was thinking along with having the limiter removed in the factory cars. How impossible would it be that maybe in part with the limiter removal. It changed the limiting torque factor it specific gear.
As example the Mazda speed3 has its power limited in its first two gears to protect the trans. Also Volvo's S60R cars with the automatic trans had this feature.
Has anyone actually dynoed a phaeton.

I know the dry sump cars have a higher rating. But I had seen it somewhere that a vw or factory tech said that was the only change. And that no other hard parts or ecu specs had been changed.
Only that there was a change in how power numbers were generated. Like an updated sae procedure.
Or were finally ready to admit actual power numbers

I did find that for 2005 SAE did start a new program of testing standards for power levels. Some cars gained power as in corvette Z06 +5 hp bump them some of Toyotas lost like 20hp. In the self study guides it lists Audi as having the dry sump from the begging. Does anyone know if its true that Audi's with the W12 had 0.5 more compression ratio?

Does anyone know anymore about the secondary air flow system listed in the self study program. It says air flows through the heads along with oil and coolant. This is NOT the air for combustion. It could be for extra cooling or there version of an AIR pump to introduce fresh air into exhaust stream for emissions purposes. Does anyone have a photo from the under side of the motor while on a lift with the plastic cover off?

Although you could probably do it, I suspect it would be simpler to transplant the engine and transmission from an A8 than to attach the ZF 6HP26A gearbox to the Phaeton's W12.

Things like this make me think of Lew Grade's comment about how much it cost to film Raise the Titanic - "It would have been cheaper to lower the ocean"

If I was gonna swap a whole motor and trans it would be either a v10tdi or a Bentley twin turbo motor
