      Hey all,

I just had some amazing new gas springs installed on the hood of my 2011 MKVI Jetta SEL. I thought you would like to get an exclusive peek at this new product!

The company that designed them is Redline Tuning, based in Michigan. They used my MKVI Jetta as a test-install to design and calibrate them for sale to the public. Luckily I was able to drive away with a of QuickLift PLUS system for free as a thank you for donating my car. Awesome.

I am really impressed with the final product - they are custom designed and definitely worth it. It makes my new Jetta look so much better without the prop rod! They are calibrated as a progressive, slow-release system and lifts the hood to the exact level that the OEM prop rod did.

The owners, Brian and Andreas were very professional and took their time in finding the best mounting location for the hardware. They figured out that the bolts in the engine bay were not sufficient and decided that they needed to drill and rivet the hardware in a more secure location. All in all the system took about 2 hours to design and fit from scratch - not too bad.

Here are some pictures of the final install. The only modification that I had to do was to cut down the foam dust barriers to accomodate the gas springs when closed. A sharp razor blade did the trick in about 5 minutes.

Redline Tuning is working on getting the manual, installation video and hardware package ready. They said that it should be available for sale in about 2 weeks. If anyone has any questions or picture requests let me know - I'll do my best to help. Prices should range $70 - $120 depending on which set you choose. The system in the picture is their QuickLift PLUS model with black, powder-coated hardware and is valued at $84.95.

A special thanks to Brian and Andreas for treating my car so well and welcoming me over to their research center - great guys.

Washed, waxed and ready for install

Final install - 2 hours later. Removed the prop rod (just pulls out from the rubber gasket)

      Closeup of gas spring

      Left side installed

Mounting point for gas spring - quality hardware. It's not going anywhere!

Modified foam dust shield - notice the notch I carved for the strut to lay in when closed.

      Looks haggard.
Good that another aftermarket company is paying attention to these junkboxes though

true..would be nice if there was some way to use an oem mounting point or something like that...but i don't think there is..i don't think it should be too much trouble drilling though..

Love it, will definitely get a set at some point.

I also love the praise this is getting after all the ridicule that was given when the original thread asked if anyone wanted to be the test car

      Screw everyone with their ridicule

the hate was the fact that they had asked for a test car to like create a hood strut or whatever the hell it was..honestly, there isn't much to it..i'm sure any of us could piece this together...but yeah, whatever.

      Got the badge from DetailHaus.

I think I paid $12 for it - it is hard embossed ABS plastic with screen printed colors. MUCH better than most of the other "Eurobadgez" out there which are bendy printed stickers.

Just popped some double-sided tape on the badge, lined it up with a level and stuck it on. Its NOT coming off without ripping out the chrome accents on the grill. Been through the carwash a few times with it on and it hasn't moved at all.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone - I'm not too concerned about the rust issue around the rivets, they are pretty tight. If its a concern, you could always drop some paint or sealer around the drill holes before dropping the rivet in - should take care of it.

Looks great, they make a wonderful product. I had these on a previous vehicle a few years back.

Love the German badge. Wanted to do something similar, but I wasn't sure how it would look. Especially on the all black SE grill. After seeing it on yours I might have to give my idea a whirl...

When I've used these in the past, I used touch up primer (available at most stores with the touch up color brushes and pens) anywhere I drilled a hole, let it dry and then installed the brackets with the supplied rivets. Zero issues on 2 different car.

yeah thats pretty embarassing. spellcheck ftw.

its also humorous that they want $30 for a 2 year extended warranty.
