I just had some amazing new gas springs installed on the hood of my 2011 MKVI Jetta SEL. I thought you would like to get an exclusive peek at this new product!
The company that designed them is Redline Tuning, based in Michigan. They used my MKVI Jetta as a test-install to design and calibrate them for sale to the public. Luckily I was able to drive away with a of QuickLift PLUS system for free as a thank you for donating my car. Awesome.
I am really impressed with the final product - they are custom designed and definitely worth it. It makes my new Jetta look so much better without the prop rod! They are calibrated as a progressive, slow-release system and lifts the hood to the exact level that the OEM prop rod did.
The owners, Brian and Andreas were very professional and took their time in finding the best mounting location for the hardware. They figured out that the bolts in the engine bay were not sufficient and decided that they needed to drill and rivet the hardware in a more secure location. All in all the system took about 2 hours to design and fit from scratch - not too bad.
Here are some pictures of the final install. The only modification that I had to do was to cut down the foam dust barriers to accomodate the gas springs when closed. A sharp razor blade did the trick in about 5 minutes.
Redline Tuning is working on getting the manual, installation video and hardware package ready. They said that it should be available for sale in about 2 weeks. If anyone has any questions or picture requests let me know - I'll do my best to help. Prices should range $70 - $120 depending on which set you choose. The system in the picture is their QuickLift PLUS model with black, powder-coated hardware and is valued at $84.95.
A special thanks to Brian and Andreas for treating my car so well and welcoming me over to their research center - great guys.
Washed, waxed and ready for install
Final install - 2 hours later. Removed the prop rod (just pulls out from the rubber gasket)

Mounting point for gas spring - quality hardware. It's not going anywhere!
Modified foam dust shield - notice the notch I carved for the strut to lay in when closed.
