So My wife and I are going to Rosemead California on June 22-25th for a family reunion. We are from Portland and I've never been past Redding. Are there any cool sites to see or places to go around that area. We will have a rental car so I can drive where ever.

From the maps it looks like the beaches are only about 30 min away. Any recommendations on good beaches to stop at?

    Thanks

former 15+year Portlander, now 4-year Angelino here...

beaches? depends on what kind you like... go north beyond Malibu if you want deserted, undeveloped beaches; the "beach cities" of Manhattan/Hermosa/Redondo Beach are the best "So Cal" type surf/beach towns in LA County, or go down to The OC for Huntington, Newport, Laguna Beach. Santa Monica & Venice are fun in their own right. do not expect anything like the Oregon coast, anywhere well, i guess Venice is like a sketchy, big-city Seaside!

Rosemead is east of L.A. in the San Gabriel Valley, which has world-class Asian food; also the Huntington Museum & Gardens (San Marino); nearby Pasadena is nice, too. Not much car-stuff on that side, unless you wanna go to California Motor Speedway (NASCAR) in Fontana.

ask if you wanna know more!

Cool thanks a lot! I just booked our hotel at the Hilton in Pasadena. The Huntington Museum & Gardens look neat.

    you're welcome.

if you like succulents & cacti, GO! the Huntington has The Most Amazing garden evAr.

and their Japanese Garden just reopened after a multi-million-$ refresh (but you can see that in Washington Park)... there's also a lot of classic european art, a Gutenberg Bible, and a temporary exhibit or two.

Since you'll be up in Pasadena, you can always attend Supercar Sunday on 6/24 in Woodland Hills -- it's not too far on the freeway on a Sunday morning to attend, and it's free.

Hot rods will be the theme that day.
