06A is the code for our blocks. Try and find one and it'll match up perfectly with your head and manifolds and everything else perfectly.

There's so much conflicting information out there, I thought I'd come to the experts.
2002 Jetta 1.8T AWP engine with automatic transmission
The block is junk. One of the pistons has a large chunk missing out of the side, and one of the rings are exposed. The cylinder wall is torn up pretty bad. Surprisingly enough, the head physically looks ok, but I'm still sending it out to be machined and pressure checked.
Basically the block is junk. Car-part.com tells me that 2002-2004 Jetta Golf new Beetle blocks will work.
I'm not against swapping parts to make another block work, but what is the final call on other blocks that will work? Does anybody around Charlotte, NC want to sell me a good short block?

Yes you can use 1.8t blocks from 2000-2001, if you wanted to use a 2.0l block I think your best bet would be a 2.0 azg code, a very wise guy said all you need to do for that is to drill one hole in the back of the block for a coolant return line from the turbo and you have a 2.0t for dirt cheap.

Yes any 99-04 1.8t block will work since all our heads are interchangeable. And I don't think there is any variance with manifolds per year. Don't use a 2.0 block. It won't work.

...beat me to it. Anyhow like he said about the 2.0 block. I don't personally know anything about using it. Never looked into it. But do your research first.

The wise guy I was referring to was Issam at INA if you wanted further info on using the 2.0 azg block![]()

Am i going to have any problems with the crank trigger, crankshaft, or flywheel if I'm using an aww block from a manual transmission jetta?
Basically swap my awp parts over and I'm good.
Thank you to everyone who responded. Good info.
