they can adjust the door and how the window rolls up. 2010 2dr's use to have this problem. dealer should be able to fix it. you can test it yourself by place blue painters tape over certain parts of the door and see if it goes away.

I finally took the plunge and got a new 2012 Candy White 4 door GTI two Saturdays ago. The car is perfect except for one really annoying thing-pretty bad wind noise on the interstate-which starts at about 60 mph-I don't hear it at normal street speeds. It seems to be coming from the upper left front corner of the car. The driver's door, side mirror and window appear to be fine.
I have a service appointment for this on Friday morning. Can VW fix this or will I just have to always blast my radio when on the interstate?
I keep reading about how subdued the wind noise is in the current GTI, so I'm assuming what I'm hearing isn't normal.
Would like to hear input from anybody as to what I might expect from the VW service department.
Thank you.![]()

Keep us updated. I want to know if the dealer fixes this or not.
Also, is there a TSB for it? If so write down TSB here.
thanks

I don't know if there's a TSB. Kind of annoyed at having to bring it in at less than 2 weeks! I hope to have a service tech drive the car on the interstate. He won't be able to miss the wind noise, although I wouldn't be shocked if he says "wind noise? What wind noise?"
I have an 8AM appointment on Friday. I will report back here whether it's been fixed or not and if so, how the tech did it. Easy to find out. I have to take the interstate back home from the VW dealer.

Thanks. I saw that thread already when I did a search. I was looking for recent trends on the wind noise situation-like with 2011 and 2012 GTIs. From the old threads, it seemed to be mostly 2 door cars that have the wind noise, but my 4 door can howl with the best of them! Only on my side. Passenger side is perfect. Love the car otherwise.

The dealership should be able to fix it. I have the same car as you and don't have that issue. I also work at a dealership and know how we would go about fixing it. Be sure to go on a test drive with a tech or shop foreman so you can show him the noise. If no tech can go ask if the Service Manager can. If he's not a d-bag he should be happy to go with you. This generally helps getting noises fixed.

You can expect the dealership to be clueless. Im sorry but that's the fact. My 2011 4 door has the same issue. I ended up fixing most of the wind noise myself. Look for my post on how I fixed it. Wool felt strips from Grainger supply tucked in between the mirror housing and the glass will quell most of the wind noise.

Here's my post.

It's not the driver's side mirror. I put painter's tape there and the wind noise was still there on the interstate. The sound is from higher up. When I got home, I noticed moisture on the outside of the driver's side front window seal about one third of the way over from the front of the seal. I had the AC on-so these water drops could be showing me the source of the problem. It's funny-I found similar drops of moisture on the outside of the passenger side front window seal, yet I don't hear wind noise coming from there.
It looks to me like the front window seals both have to be re-installed tighter, unless somebody here will tell me some moisture on the outside part of the rubber window seals is normal when the AC is on.

Hopefully your dealership can figure that one out.My wind noise was definitely coming from the the "A" pillar and the mirror. I did have water leaking inside the car during a heavy rain from the top of the door seal. A piece of 1/4 inch vinyl tubing inserted between the door seal fixed that issue. Dealer was clueless on both counts. Frustrating that these cars have this problem to begin with.
Good luck to you!!

Update: Had to turn back from trip to the dealer this morning. Bad thunderstorms. Rescheduled wind noise pow wow for Tuesday morning. Will update at that time.![]()

i feel like mine went away, or maybe i'm not driving as fast

I was out there driving in the heavy rain-both the streets and interstate-absolutely no slippage, no matter how fast I went or how sharp the turns. The GTI has to be the best FWD car there is. It is so delightful to drive, I just may chuck the dealer visit for the interstate wind noise, for fear they may screw something else up on this otherwise perfect car. So happy with this car!![]()

try the electric tape diy fix, that might work? I didn't try yet, just taking it to dealer b/c i have other stuff to check out

I have blue painter's tape. Seems like the culprit is the driver's front rubber window seal. I may put some in there and see what happens. The only flaw in a terrific car!
