I have a few questions:
What is a catch can / what does it do?
Are there benefits from having one on the engine? If so, what?
Does a company make one for the 2.0 TSI engine?
I've seen countless amounts of people with them on their FSI's but none on a TSI.

thanks, and i did use the search, however i probably used the wrong keywords and search options. I will definitely brush up on that

Basically- since it's an engine component- its in the tsi pages. There are two searches. One for the entire forum (which I never use) and one for specific pages. Use the one for specific pages. It'll narrow down the search.

In a nutshell, it catches oil blowback from the crank case so it does not get sent back into the motor which can lower performance![]()

Yes. And some argue blowby should be recirculated to help even ring wear and for some reason I don't understand clean the valves somehow![]()
On the 2.5 the valve cover has a paper filter that does not allow much liquid blowby to flow back into the valve cover. Catch cans have more of a purpose on a turbo car imo, but I have one, and I collect a fair amount of crap in it from the billet valve cover.

After dumping the crap out that I've caught in my catch can, I am a firm advocate for running one. I clean it once every other week, takes 5 minutes to empty and reinstall.
