Thread: Dreamin' MKVII with VGA CEO Jonathan Browning

JB JB, I sooo wanted a MK6 R this year but hey, I'm having a hard time pushing the launch button.

It is hard not to participate in mighty VW goal of world domination, especially after reading the teutonic challenge by der uber Deutcher VW AG CEO, Herr Martin Winterkorn.

Here's why I'm tossing and turning on my MarkVII R action bed:

Competence comes from a determination to excellence which makes me want a Golf R in the first place. VW has that covered and then some. But it seems the play calling for the U.S. market is missing the mark.

Western Digital has the Raptor (and Ford), Mini has JCW and BMW has M Sports. Now a fully prepped factory Mini can hit in the mid-$40k with all the nicey nice options. Not bad when you think about an R base car + $10k in aftermarket upgrades lands you in a better position but with the real ability to finance those mods over time, leaving some love $$ left over for the GF!

To the point tho, the loyalty effect of these marquee models within those brands, positions a desire in the average buyer to want the hottest version, something that often may not be financially possible, but helps direct sales to stay within the model lineup.

Now if you're going to make a commitment to that kind of strategy, you really have to bring an approach that at least presents the appearance of competitive equality.

Lately, we're all aware the hybrid, EV, downsizing to save valuable petrol, improve mpg and reduce the pollution impact on the merry blue marble. Without giving away my driving joy, can I successfully downsize to a Golf R and still have the flexibility to build the M version of the MkVII R from the factory? I was really surprised to see that something like the DSG simply isn't here in the U.S. At all.

Okay, it's the better part by any comparison so it should be here and how's that manual for sitting in every day traffic. Clutch in. Clutch out. Move ten feet. HoHumm!

Ok, I go to the German-engineered VW website to build it right and horrors...Where's the wheel options? Sadly I notice...No accessories from any aftermarket performance partners. No KW coils and it makes me really question why I can get a big brake option for the Toyota 4Runner factory direct but not for an R.

Can I start with an R that ditches the sunroof (weight) and allows me to build my IR vision from baseline up with a few levels of sport package options? Where's an option for that SS exhaust you know I really desire? Standard factory sport seats for long distance comfort or those Recaro's that lock my hydraulic butt into a youthful, race ready attitude on those weekend club rally's...nada to be found!

Yeah, I get the whole reason for the lack of flexibility and how the decision making process involving a million chefs and their bean-counting busboys who can really fake an orgasm when you're watching them but out here, the rice drifters are getting their Mikimoto on.

Maybe you can create some bad bunny attitude with an offer for regular Joe's to get down to the dealership and participate in a special order period without having us running the accessory list gauntlet the dealer uses to stock the lot fish. I know they gotta make money but really, if I want a mommy car, I can drive over to the Volvo Safety First event and then donate my tax refund to Uncle Samuel.

Oh, oh, oh...I get the thrills and chills reading up on that new chassis. Of course, I'm still scratching my head on the whole LED eyelids design thing going on at Audi...all good but must we copy it over and over again like a mindless virus? AND how did LEDs become more expensive than the actually more expensive older technology?

I'm ready to sell the M3, the 7 series and the Mustang GT gas hog. I'm keeping the 4 wheel drive patrol vehicle for the zombie invasion bug out tho

Don't force me to give any other make/model or brand a second thought. I think VW is on the right track. Just loosen up a little bit that iron grip and let a righteous bunny blitz hit the American shores. Create the hot hatch scene. Set the benchmark. Boot that mini-me to the curb.

If you need some help getting this dialed in, I'll quit my job and bring along a bunch of bright bunnies from this forum to help you out. You do read the forum right?

I gotta wake up now and get to work while this dream still lingers in my mind...badges? We don't need no stinkin' badges. Just bring the baddest bunny you got!

    Sleep tight J.B. !
