Chapel, have you considered transitioning to keto for even more weight loss? I'm considering doing it myself short term but staying within the confines of paleo/primal while I'm at it.

I'm on the Whole30 now. I don't think I'm going to go any farther than that.
I'm happy with my progress. I think Ketosis/Ketogen diets will backfire. They're not sustainable mentally or physically. I don't think they're healthy either.
I'll do more exercise to make more weight fall off. I haven't weighed myself in a week. I'm not allowed to until September 3

I need my diet to be realistic. this is surprisingly realistic and easy to stick to.

I recently started easing my way into the TPB and that's what I like about it. So far down 17lbs since mid June and other than beer I don't have much of a hankering for any crap. I had worked with nutritionists in the past that pushed low carb but also low fat and I did good for about a month or two but it wasn't sustainable. I have to laugh when I look at the charts for MyFitnessPal since it's suggested goals are way off from what I end up eating on TPB(2+x the fat, 1/4 the carbs, 1.5-2x the protein). I'm about 1/4 way through the book and also picked up the 2 recipe books since while I can cook, I have no imagination.

Be wary that your progress will hit a plateau after the easy weight is lost. Cutting sugars, sodas and refined carbs will make you drop a ton of water pretty quickly. The hard work comes after that.

Chapel, congrats on the weight loss, I've enjoyed following your updates.
I've been on a keto diet since jan 1 of 2012 and have found it very easy to adhere to. That being said, I've never had a sweet tooth nor carb cravings, so I could see how it would be challenging if you do. Regarding the healthfulness (is that a word?) of a keto diet, fee free to check out my post in H&F that I made earlier this year. All my blood markers improved after starting the diet. Or don't. As you've found out, the best diet is the one you can adhere to and I commend you for finding something that works for you.
While keto diets in general focus on the macros rather than the quality of those macros, I don't think there's an author or adherent who would suggest that McD's is the best option if there are other choices available. That being said, I've never been at a cookout and refused to eat the burgers the host prepared because the beef wasn't from grass-fed cows, so I enjoy the flexibility afforded by a generic keto diet rather than "capital P" Paleo. Quality food choices are important no matter what, though.

People on Keto diets smell. It's not a good smell either.
On bigger guys it can be horrible.
Mixed with alcohol on chicks it is downright freaky. We have one of her in our office and everyone talks about it behind her back. She is thinner though, so maybe to her it is worth it.

my wife is #166. She's lost 60lbs
I'm still sticking with the diet, but I've been cheating a tiny bit. Mostly small bits of chocolate that aren't dark or paleo. Some salad dressings that may not be soy free...
I'm going to make a resolution to go back and do the full Primal again starting in January, then another Whole30 in February.
I need to get back on the wagon, but I've felt like celebrating losing 70lbs... unfortunately, I'm only 5lbs from my first goal weight of 225lbs... so it's a bit premature.

It's gonna be crazy when you pass my weight on your journey. Makes it more personal or puts it into perspective for me. You're really close to doing so now.![]()

I finished 409th:

I was a little slow off the gun as I didn't want to run anyone over or give someone a flat tire or trip someone up going through the starting line. After that, I ramped up and ran flat out for about 3/4 of a mile before I snotted up.

I know I'm not the fastest runner but I really don't care. When I compare myself to myself I can see that I'm probably in the best shape of my life even if an old man ran past me the other day.

Awesome! I lost 14.5lbs in 30 days on Paleo with 3 days of working out a week. I've modified the diet slightly, eating some carbs. Sugar was the real kicker.
Congrats!

Awesome job man. I went paleo for a while then completely fell off the wagon... But your right its a simple realistic diet that is pretty easy to do. I gotta hop back on the train here, my blood sugars were awesome while I was doing it.
Keep up the the good work.
