Thread: I want to SLAM my 74 super beetle

  1. 06-01-2012 10:03 AM #1
I want to SLAM my 74 super beetle, as in lower it, to the ground. I can't do air bags don't have nearly enough money. Maybe some links, or tips to do it the right way. I don't want to see heat the spring up and cut it. lol. Anything helps,

    Thank you!

topline is really you're only option for getting a super beetle low. but its spendy.

if you really want a slammed bug just go ahead and sell the fatty and get a standard beetle

I posted something a week or two ago and didn't get much luck. I want that bitch to the ground. I've kinda been looking around and see that a bug beam and spindles would drop it like 3 inches. But I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to see TOPLINE because that won't give me the drop I want. I need help.

If its a super beetle you need to get the "beam" word out of your vocabulary.

You have springssssss. And need new drop springssssss.

I know it has springs, but they won't get it that low. 2-3 inches in the front is almost the same height as it is in the back, lower yes, but not slammed.

If you know it has springs then why ask about a beam to drop it. You can't do that without major modification that will never be worth it. If you wnt to use a beam and drop spindles sell your fatchick and get a standard bug.

And yes I know what you said. Just bump the OG thread asking again for some info. Starting a new thread about the same thing will do nothing to change not getting more info that your seeking. Just flack for starting another thread...

I think what he meant to say is he has a square peg and needs to fit it in a round hole. No money, doesn't want to go with air suspension, but wants to slam it to the ground. Get it Guys, we need to help SuperBeetle12, he needs help getting this square peg in that round hole.

Hmmm....lemmme think a minute, no money, don't want to do it right but want to lower the car. I got it-->cut the strut towers off completely, raise them up about five inches until they just about hit the hood, then have your uncle reweld the towers with some angle iron for no money at all. The car will ride like poop, not turn worth a damned, and put you into the guard rail the first time you take it on the road.

I don't say this often, but SuperBeetle12 you need buy a Civic, install some coil springs off a golf cart (that way you don't have to cut or heat anything--clever, huh? ) until the fender wells touch the tires and leave us all alone already.

hey now we are gettting somewhere. Cutting and raising the strut towers is working in the right direction if you want to hammer it like you bought a standard.

I have no clue what this dude is talking about. He must not have any idea on what the hell he is doing.

Topline is the best lowering stuff for supers, period.

Early supers can be dropped 5 inches, later ones around 4.

If you want to do some stupid crap and make the car unsafe and undriveable, go ahead

seriously if what was said in this thread got to you then stay the heck away from the samba.

so next time everyone we should all stand up and cheer when a new member shows up and wants to slam his car without doing a lick of research first, even more so when it's a super beetle. STAND UP AND CHEER I TELL YOU!!!!

    yeah no kidding.

    OP,

you created 2 threads because you didn't get the answer you wanted in this one. you're representing bad side of the younger demographic that just shows up and wants to be spoon fed. what you want to do to your car isn't anything new or different and has been done countless times before. so you think that maybe, just maybe, there's already countless threads with information already out there? ya think?

and my favorite saying from another member on here "you can't get a ride height just by wishing for it"

guys it's just another "rise" thread from a water guy...

this has been done so many times it makes me sick...this is why some of us have american hot rods too.

remember guys, the older we are and the older we get, it seems that today we "owe" the younger dudes at times...not all of 'em, but most.

You guys are all right, I should've done some research. But I did look around a bit and just thought posting a new thread would get attention and would be able to get some infoformation. My bad dudes. I'm really not all that young. Just don't know much about lowering AC is all. ****, some newbie comes along and gets ripped a new ass for asking (or being stupid) about something. took me all of 20 seconds:

    http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...Slammed-Supers

and not to be an ass but there's countless other sites with aircooled knowledge...just have to look around. i found all the info i was after on my quest to baywindow bus slammo before i even picked up a single wrench. granted i had to hop around to make it all fit together, but in the end i had more info than i could shake a stick at and had so many bookmarks it rivaled my porn list

also new people get the hazing, no two ways about it. you can either suck it up, move forward, and play in the sand box with us or you can go microcaddy and sulk off. this section is the most helpful for thinking out side the box in terms of builds and ideas....i find it very friendly here with a good kick in the balls when needed
