Thread: Problem with LED tailights w/rear fog

  1. 06-02-2012 04:31 PM #1
I know this is a dead horse but I can't seem to find anyone with my problem. I just installed the lights and found that only the outside left light worked with the brake depressed, the outside left inside left and inside right worked with the light switch in the on position. Also both blinkers work.

I switched my byte 18 to 04 already and am not (as of now) using my euro light switch (I didn't think this would be it but I'm at a complete loss)

Has anyone had this problem or have any idea what may be wrong thanks.

if three out of the four are working, i would imagine you have a bad light. double check the connections and if that doesnt work, try plugging in the other side to see if it lights up. that will point you in the right direction. good luck.

Thanks, I'll check that now. I was hoping it was a coding problem but everyone seems to be running the same 04 code I am.

OK, I don't have a 12v fault indicator, but my uncle does so it'll be a little longer than I thought.

Exactly right... I had a bad wiring harness, I noticed one of the connections were not crimped properly. I pulled it out, fixed it and re-crimped and everything was working when I hooked it back up. Good Luck!

I believe it might be your harness for the outer light. The inside lights don't turn on with the brakes applied only the outher ones.
If anybody needs VAG-COM around lower westchester area pm me k

That was it Problem solved just had to plug some wires with a screw driver and all the fault codes dissapeared and lights worked.(save for the rear fog I don't the switch installed for)

    Thanks again guys!

Now on to the blacked out HID housings, if I get too feeling ambitious this weekend

Glad you found it. I just went through this a few days ago and there seems to be some real issues with the QC for the wiring harnesses. I had a wire pop out of the crimp fitting AND the same cable had one of the connectors on backwards, so pins 1 and 3 were reversed. Anyone doing this mod needs to check out their cables before installing to save some headaches.
