Mine did not pop out but simply pulling on it like the instructions say. I had to stick a flat bladed object between the trim ring surround the boot and the textured plastic panel. Hope this helps.

So far I have been able to follow the instructions for the install, but I have gotten stuck at removing the shift boot inside the car. Can someone please tell me how to get the shift boot out so that I can lock the mechanism in place and finish my install?
TIA,
Eric

Hah, my back hurt too, especially on a lowered car! I didn't remove the battery or the intake either so there was lots of squeezing arms in tight places which made it even more of a PITA. On top of that I needed like 5 threads for my side to side adjustment not 2 like the instructions say![]()

Use a credit card and just work your way around. Don't just pull up on it.

The plastic putty knife came to the rescue again. I use these all the time for car stuff. I didn't really understand it was the whole panel that was coming off. At first I was just trying to get the leather boot off. Pushing forward with the putty knife and lifting up was the key.
Thanks for the responses!
