Sunday November 11, is the day all the 1974-1992 VWs (and all Corrados) meet up at Bonelli Park. We have other parties, dinners and drives on Friday and Saturday.

This year we expect to see over 100 pre 92 VWs!!!

    >>>Park details<<<
    Bonelli Park
120 Via Verde San Dimas, CA 91773
    Park information----> (909) 599-8411 (not event information)

    Daily Vehicle Entrance Fee $10.00
    RVs or Trailers $14.00

Start time is 8:am but most roll in between 9-10. You can arrive any time but most folks take off around 3:30 PM to drive long distances home.

This is one of the largest old school water cooled VW gatherings in the USA. It is not a traditional car show so you don't need to worry if your car is not perfect. We all know how difficult it is to keep a 20 or 30 year old car running. It nice to see a large group of older VWs in one place. You can bring family members and have a cookout, hang out with some friends and make some new friends.

"The spirit and tone of a gathering like this is very different from the later-model crowd and while most car shows are noisy and can often seem unfriendly, this particular group shares the passion of both restoring and modifying the cars that set the pattern for today’s models. Where most current shows tend to revolve around body kits and blow off valves, this group was more about keeping history alive and well."

This event is centered around the San Dimas, Southern California area culminating on Sunday at Bonelli Park which is a scenic backdrop for the early water cooled faithfuls that dare to drive from far away to enjoy the cars and the crowd. Everyone is welcome to attend the Sunday gathering at Bonelli Park near the lake. If you enjoy the older cars or you just want to see your friends please attend but we ask that you park in the designated locations. All featured pre 1992 cars will park on the display side and all spectator vehicles (post 1992) are requested to park on the left side as you enter the parking lot.

Most of the time the older CIS cars without airbags are shut out at GTGs and the owners of 70s and 80s cars don't want to attend GTGs because the chat is all about ECU flashing, turbos and 20" wheels. For several of the A1 and A2 folks Bonelli is the only GTG that they drive to (some work hard just to get the old car running). Our goal has always been to get some great pictures and possibly get them published someplace. Party like it is 1992.
This is an example of the A1 chassis models that you will find in the display area:

Scirocco MK1 1974-81 (German built by Karmann)
Golf MK1 1974-83 Germany/ (City Golf SA 1978-08ish if you can find one)
Rabbit US built April 1978-June 84
Rabbit made in Mexico "Caribe" 1978-85
Rabbit truck (June 79-July 83 US built) and then Caddy-92
    Jetta MK1 1980-84 (Production starts October, 1979)
    Cabriolet MK1 1980-93 (Production starts January, 1980)
Scirocco Mk2 1982-92 (German built by Karmann)

This is an example of the B1 chassis models that you will find in the display area:
    Dasher/ Audi Fox
    Quantum
    88-93 Passat

This is an example of the A2 chassis models that you will find in the display area:
    85-92 Golf
    85-92 Golf GTT
    85-92 Jetta
    Corrado (all)

Saturday November 10th the Vintage Water Cooled group will visit the Petersen Automotive Museum and the LA Rock. http://www.petersen.org/

Saturday is a great day to see some wonderful cars. At 6:45 - 8:00 we can go to Cars and Coffee in Irvine (5 and 405). If we depart from C&C at 8:00 AM we can drive out to breakfast and meet up with the folks that like to sleep in.

Breakfast will be between 8:45 and 9:45.
After breakfast we drive to the Museum as a group.

I think we should arrive at the Museum between 10:30 and 11:00 AM and enter at 11.

OK it is time to get your MK1s and MK2s off the jack stands and on the road. This year our goal is to see as many well done tip top running under there own power A1s at the event. Make a list and send it to your favorite parts supplier like PARTS4VWS.com so you can start enjoying your A1 sooner than later.

I'm in. First year for me, too.
Before then my major goal is to replace leaky rear main seal, clutch, axle flange seals, related stuff. Car is daily driven now but once in awhile it likes to drip some oil on exhaust at highway speeds.

But I'll go. And one of my friends with a really sic mkIV gti may tag along. Can't wait!!!

Great news, I was hoping it would be on the 11th, it makes for a great birthday weekend for me, since my birthday is the 12th!!

I definately plan on being there again this year, although this year I think I'll bring the GTI instead, the Scirocco has made the trip several times, so I think it's the GTI turn

Oh, BTW, shouldn't the statement be pre 93? Pre 92 would eliminate my '92 GTI, but it is a MkII

I am one more step closer to driving to this event!
Replaced the rear main seal and trans seals last weekend, along with clutch and related stuff. Now my car cruises down the road without smelling like burnt oil.

Still on my list: convert to manual steering, swap my non A/C console back in, under-dash shelves, upgrade to 16v rear sway bar, possibly 35% window tint (no darker), hatch seal, sunroof seal, re-do rear brake system.

wow my list is longer than I thought. Lots of work to do!

I'm planning on being there this year as well, but unfortunately I'll be in late Friday night through sunday.. I planned on being there Thursday, but someone must have put an invisible drive through in at my work that I somehow keep driving through.. and we all know what happens in the drive through, they F you.

BTW, Doug T - IM me, I'd like to talk to you about plans for Saturday, some stuff we talked about last year

    Greeat!!

I was talking with Will the other day and (Doug, feel free to chime in) we were thinking it would be best to move our usual Friday nite pre-BBQ to Saturday night at the Bonelli campground which will help keep the whole weekend less "watered down" and also help to accommodate those who do camp by bringing the party to them with less tired folks from the night before.

For those who want to camp, click here for reservations and select "wilderness tenting"

Sat eve party is just fine with me. I have always supported the tradition of camping but the weather is not always the best in November. My original hope for the GTG was to have a big party on Saturday and keep the location as close as possible to the Sunday car event. If some folks don't want to drive home on Sat eve it works out to just camp, then stumble to the Sunday car event.

I am up for some Saturday events too.
