Hey my name is Cam and this is my mk2 build/picture/progress thread thing.

    Car:
    1991 Jetta GLI 16v LA6U Capri Green/Dark Metallic Teal
pictures will show the work/ideas I have for my car.

Quick timeline of how it has come together and the progress of it. I couldn’t have done any of the work if it was for my good friends Pete, Rick, My Pops, and Chris and a few others im sure I am forgetting that helped me do most of the work!

I bought this car is the summer of 2010 for a daily when I went to school.
Car was in decent shape but needed some work to get it going. Drove car for 2 years and needed to be rebuilt properly.

I then smoked all the ambers (fronts and rear) color matched bananas

Untitled by Cam Savela (killacam1111), on Flickr

three days before Christmas I decided to rip engine out and redo it properly.

Untitled by Cam Savela (killacam1111), on Flickr

I bought a 9a motor to throw in because my PL was running on hopes and dreams and before I threw the engine in Rick wanted to check it out first and we opened it up and it was not pretty and it had a fresh “new” head on it which was sandblasted and put back together still had sand in it …..onto some of the **** photos of the engine I bought and got screwed on because people are dumb!
    Bearings ready to go….

Untitled by Cam Savela (killacam1111), on Flickr

    Blown head gasket?

Untitled by Cam Savela (killacam1111), on Flickr

So I talked to Rick to see what would be my best option. I then ripped down both motors and combined them to make a new one out of them. (originally supposed to be a swap and go process) its never that easy. For specs on engine check above.

    Looks good!

Unless you like the faded black trim look, go to autoze and pick up a can or 2 of trim paint.

It looks really well if you don't rush the painting process

if you look at the last 4 photos i use kiwi shoe polish. and they are black. not painting them. too much effort for that. they havent faded yet and ive washed it 4 times and seems good. i think 2 times a year i would have to do it max. but better than the back to black junk.

....or you can use peanut butter/ peanut oil blend...works well, no black streaks and repels water! Only catch is that it attracts dogs and other hungry animals to lick your trim...

so this week i got alot of little stuff done.

first off the slim line spal fan wasnt keeping my engine cool enough in traffic it kept chasing my gauge so i got a modified mk3 shroud with mk2 fan. and replaced the thermo switch in bottom of radiator and now she is cooling down nice! thanks rick!

Untitled by Cam Savela (killacam1111), on Flickr

then swapped my hood from my carat parts car (been resprayed) so it doesnt match perfectly but way more straight and clean.

after the car was cooling properly i then started to work on mocking up my copper pipes for my crank breather and my ISV to my intake. took me a full day to get them mocked up soldered and then cleaned and polished, well worth it i think it adds a cool effect on the engine bay! and made them hardlines so they dont rub on the timing belt.

    isv one started

    crank breather also started

fuel rail is gonna be polished next and then cleaning up the wiring in the engine bay and make it special!

my crank breather hose deceided to tear in half becuase it was dry and old...... replaced and rebuild with thicker and newer radiator hose. she is running better. also got the rear swaybar in and por15 the entire thing and it is nice! 28mm neuspeed bar really holds!

quick fix in a parking lot!
