I'll start off by saying that I'm 32, and just got a degree in Safety Engineering.
I worked as the Safety Director of a construction company for just over a year, and the company went under back in February. I just finished up school in May and now the job hunt starts.
While there are loads of job opportunities out there, not too many are nearby, and because of family issues, I won't really be able to relocate until next summer. At this point, I've applied to most everything in my field/experience level locally, and regionally.
Still with me? Here's my question. I received a response to my resume on monster from a local dealership that I have some personal ties to. They offered me an interview, which I accepted, for a position on their sales team. While I plan on being upfront with them about my career path and goals, I'm concerned about how this may affect looking for jobs a year or two down the road. On one hand, I think the sales experience will always be a plus, plus I could squeeze in a couple of grad-level classes in the meantime. On the other, I worry that it might be a cause of concern when applying to Safety-related jobs in the future. What are your thoughts?
