Thread: unOFFICIAL Roll of Film a Week Thread

  1. 06-03-2012 10:41 PM #1
A few of us film shooter types have agreed to try to shoot (at least) a roll of film a week for an indefinite amount of time. Everyone and anyone with some film gear should feel free to join in. SLRs, Rangefinders, Point & Shoots, Medium Format, etc doesn't matter; if it shoots a roll of film then it's fair game.

I think the general theme I have in mind is to shoot a roll during the week, process it in your personal darkroom or send it to a lab for processing/scans, and then post a couple top picks from that roll the following week, so on and so forth.

I also think it will be helpful to post a bit of "EXIF" info each week. Nothing too specific; just a bit about the camera set up and film type used for each set of photos.

I'll be using an Olympus OM1 SLR with a Zuiko 50mm F/1.8, a Bess R rangefinder with a Jupiter 8 lens, and a Nikon N80 with a 50 f/1.8 or 24 f/2.8. Film types of choice are usually Illford Delta B&W and Fujichrome Velvia color slide.

Here's one from last week taken with my Olympus OM1 on Ilford Delta 400

very cool. I have a few more shots of some slide film to develop and a roll of b&w just finished to take in.

I'll probably shoot a bit tomorrow, haven't decided on film/camera/lens combo yet.

That's a tough one - I hope you have some plastic bags for some uhhh.."protection."

My Jupiter 8 lens has yet to show up so I'm still waiting to use my rangefinder for the first time. The lens was bought from some ex-Soviet Socialist Republic territory and it appears as though it's making the journey via the slow boat.

Same here, I have an idea of what I'd like to do with it tho. But who knows how well it will actually go.

I've actually started this project for myself the beginning of the year. I'm actually psyched to know there are other people doing this. It was difficult at first, but you get used to it. Right now it's back to difficult. I have a friend who's a photographer for the newspaper so sometimes I go on assignments with him. I shoot with two different cameras, a Vivitar V3800n, and a Minolta Hi-Matic AF-S.

Come on man it's the first week. You can't go into it with that attitude . Plus I thought Denver was dope.

I went super hipster, grabbed an old roll of Ektachrome 100 I had lying around, threw it into the LOMO LCA and shot that in a rural town about 30 minutes from here. Dropped it off for processing. Will be done in C41 chems First time doing something like this. Should be pretty entertaining

pssht..why go through all that trouble when you can just add a filter to an iphone pic

Edit: my Jupiter 8 just showed up from the Ukraine!

It's in great shape but I didn't realize how loose the Aperture ring was..I remember reading about it in lens reviews but didn't think it would be this "flimsy". Just another thing to keep track of when shooting I guess.

    Scanning now

  15. 06-06-2012 08:00 PM #15
the aperture ring on my jupiter8 is pretty stiff but on the zeiss is very smooth. I prefer the smooth ring. If this is your first rf lens coming from slr it will feel too loose, it did for me, but you shouldnt worry about it slipping without your knowledge.

Stuff is eh, I have a better idea for a series I want to work on over the summer now though. So it was a good point in the right direction and a way of telling myself "what not to do". I really hadn't done much Cross Processing before this. It's clear now that it isn't for me. I scanned the whole roll, just uploaded a few though, so if for some reason someone wants to see more of these lmk and I'll throw up some more.

    Either way, enjoy

    Hey, it coulda been worse

I actually kind of like them though..the colors and processing kind of complement the environment. Especially the Gaston Market sign

I'm dropping off a roll of EfKe 100 B&W that I shot with my Olympus OM1 in the Georgetown area last weekend, as well as the first roll of Kodak BW400CN that I shot with my Bessa R/Jupiter 8 setup.

With any luck they will be ready by tomorrow

It wasn't much of a problem and I actually really enjoyed using it. I shot in a sort of "shutter priority mode" by sticking to 1/125 and tweaking the aperture ring a bit until the exposure read correctly. Barring any drastic exposure changes, the system worked quite well.

Walgreens had it processed and (super low quality) scanned within 45 minutes.

Short story of what happened this past weekend. I was in Waikiki taking some pictures of people and things on the street, I finished killing the roll and opened my camera. I forgot to rewind the film. Now I'm a week behind.

I'll play. These were taken with my Pentax Spotmatic on Kodak Gold 200 (lol). I need to get a negative scanner ASAP. Can anyone recommend a really cheap scanner that will work better than Walgreens?

It doesn't have nearly the dynamic range of a more traditional black and white film but it's great in a pinch since it uses a C41 process, which can be done in an hour almost anywhere. I usually have to tweak the scans a bit in Aperture after processing in order to get a 'true' black and white but don't let that roll of yours go to waste.

Insanely fine grain, almost non existent. I used to shoot it a bunch before I picked up home developing again. Now it's just too easy to pass over it at the store so I haven't shot any in some time. The last time I did was in Boston when I bought the LC-A I used above. It was the only BW film I could find so I shot a bunch of it.

Like peoples_car said, not as much DR or quite the same tonality, but it is a fine fine film. My favorite of the 3 chromeogenic BW films.
