      Restaurants I say!

Got any hidden gems you like to go to? I'm not talking about McD's, Olive Garden, Outback, etc... Places that are indies or small local chains with only a handful of places. If so, see if you can post a link and the locatin of the place. I always like looking for new dining experiences. You may find some new places close to you if we can get this thread moving.

We have a place near by in Hagerstown, MD called Laila's Kitchen that's a afghani/kebab place. It's fantastic. I've been to a semi-local chain in the Ashburn area and this little place blows it away.

      Around Denver:

Yak and Yeti - Indian / Nepalese buffet & brew pub - Don't let the buffet throw you, the food is fresh and tasty, and the beers are great.

Pagliacci's - Old school italian, delicious, not as expensive as one might expect. Nice atmosphere.

"J-Ru" (Jerusalem Cafe) - Walk on over after getting blitzed at the bars near the DU campus, get yourself a gyro sandwich, some fries, and a baklava. You finished yet? Let's keep drinking.

Taqueria las Palmas I & II - I could drink their salsa it's so good. Stay away from the Americanized green chile smothered dishes and it's quite authentic.

El Tajado - Known for their seafood (It stares back at you), but for my money, it's THE BEST GODDAM CARNITAS ANYWHERE. Mediocre salsa though.

There is a local chain called Mancy's. They have four different restaurants that each offer something unique. My favorite is the Bluewater Grille, which specializes in seafood.

      http://www.mancys.com/

There are a grouping of restaurants on the East Side collectively referred to as "The Docks." Zia's (Italian) and the Real Seafood Co (a three location chain - the other two are in Ann Arbor and Naples) are the best of the four restaurants.

      In Baltimore -

Holy Frijoles - pretty good Mexican food, really good drinks and excellent hipster watching.

Blue Moon Cafe - really, really good breakfast. Thick cut bacon, cinnamon buns that are as big as your head...and it's cheap.

Paper Moon Diner - pretty decent food, lots of vegetarian choices, really good sweet potato fries and bacon milkshakes. Also the craziest decorations you have ever seen.

I've really been wanting either dirty greasey Mexican food or Tapas lately. May have to check out Holy Frijoles.

I like Kyodai in Towson. It's a rotating sushi bar. I know it's a novelty, but it's still fun to go in.

Little hole in the wall from the college days with awesome locally sourced food and a ton of craft beers for not a lot of money. It's impossible to find somewhere else as rad in the expensive-ass suburbia I'm in now.

Tommy's pizza right next to the train tracks in your own town of Shepherdstown is some of the best pizza I have had outside NJ/NY!

Stayed at that Clarion a few times now (will be again tomorrow) and been to a bunch of places on/near German street and haven't had bad food yet.. well Tony's?? Pizza wasn't bad but not good either.

No no no. It's dirty. As a Chinese person, I can say it's definitely also made by Chinese people.
I will however second Holy Frijoles as a pretty decent Mexican place.

      Baltimore:
Andy Nelson's BBQ (Hunt Valley) - Consistently solid. Probably "on average" some of the best ribs I've had. The brisket and pulled pork sandwiches are great if you're not in the mood for a rack. Collard greens with pork bits, real mac and cheese and potato salad that is actually good (and not the normal disgusting slather of mayo mush) are highlights for sides. The mustard based Carolina sauce is worth bringing home. One of those places I'll always stop at if I'm passing.

Jasa Kabob (Canton) - In my opinion, the best Indian-ish food in Baltimore. The value is good, the place is clean and the owner is always friendly. If you ask nicely they'll do whole chickens or whole fish. The bone in chicken kabob was my go to.

Peter's Inn (Fells) - If you're going to step your game up, this is a great choice. Rotating hand written menu and a great bar. A quiet hole in the wall that only seats a few. One of the few places that actually deserves the "Charm" moniker of Baltimore. Some of the regulars have great stories to tell.

Jong Kak (North Ave/Charles Village) - Korean BBQ that's open til 4 AM. They put a coal bucket in your table and you grill there. <4 people? Order a half cow. >4 people? Order a full cow. A great end to an alcohol fueled night. And if you've still got room, there's karaoke up the street.

      Bethesda/Rockville:
Freddy's Lobster and Clams - If you want good beer in Bethesda, this is pretty much the only place to go. An added bonus is that they make awesome lobster rolls, fried whole belly clams and fried chicken. The rest of the menu is so-so. The 25% military discount has led me to eat way too much seafood this year.

Temari - Pretty much the only Japanese restaurant actually run by Japanese people. There's a little old man who's been making ramen since before you were born so you know it's got to be good. It's not a sushi place, but instead a good choice for cheap noodles, curries and omelet rices.

Huh, I wish I knew about that place when I lived in MoCo. Actual Japanese food is hard to find.

I mean, I eat the hell out of the ample supply of Korean-made Americanized Japanese food here in NoVA all the time. But sushi and teriyaki gets old.
