Hi All, been a few years since I've been on VWVortex. My '00 Golf GLS has served me well but alas this urban landscape has taken its toll on it. List of needed repairs growing to where I've found myself looking at new options. Test drove a TDI wagon yesterday and am leaning towards the wagon at this point. Likely not TDI as my low mileage, city driving wouldn't reap the benefits of the TDI.
Want the manual gas S trim level but it appears none are to be had. Awaiting some quotes for S, gas auto and TDI manual. Looking to lease and the advertised deal right now doesn't look like much of a deal @ $2k due @ signing, NOT including tax & fees. Asked for quotes on TDI thinking its residual may be high enough to offset monthly to where its close to the gas.
If anyone's had any recent dealings/cautions/suggestions and would care to share I'd love to hear.
Pretty sure they don't offer the SE trim with a manual gear box. That's why I settled for the S.
Definitely, check out other dealers - some that are active here may even be willing to help you located one. I know that when I was looking, I found the car I purchased sitting on the lot but the salesguy didn't even know it was there Needless to say I did the deal with a different salesman.
No manual option on SE through the VW.com builder. Not too big a deal to get the auto but both my wife & I kinda missed it when we got the Golf.
Checking a few other brands & will weigh the options after I've looked around some more. I had grown a bit cold on VW in the '00's between the coil pack debacle & their apparent cluelessness of the US market, $100k+ Phaeton when they should have been bringing the Polo and/or Lupo over. But I think I'd be OK driving either the GTI or JSW at this point. Still some bad memories of their service dept so I'm not completely back in the fold yet.
Here's a rather useless response to my inquiry at vw.com asking about JSW S w/stick shift...
"Thank you for contacting VW Chat! I'm sorry no one was available to chat with you.
We at Chat would not have access to any dealer inventory. If you are not finding any on the inventory search tool, you may want to reach out to dealers to see what they have available on their lots. They also have resources we do not have and are able to search for vehicles as well. Please understand 2012 models may be challenging to find as we have stopped production for 2012.
