Got the part right. The money part... Got the box, the long cable, and the short one all for $100 shipped to my house. It is off a wrecked mk5 R32.

Would you mind posting the part numbers of all the items?

    Thanks,

Nice! This has been on my short list of things to do since I got my R and noticed the battery plate in the hatch, just like my old Mk5 R32.

I would be more than happy to. I'll post them up when I get home from work tonight.

Yeah, it seemed like a no brainer! I saw it for sale and was like ROMGZ! BUY NOW!1!!11!!!!1!

I'm wondering.. Once I get done with the battery move... Take the original battery box and make it into an air box/intake. No 90 degree bend like all the rest, and no hacking up the engine cover. I'm an amateur embedded systems guy. So.. Gonna do some measurements via oversampling the MAF before and then after to see baseline steady state air volume/sec and then do a little differentiation to see if there is any increase in air volume/sec^2. If that goes well, maybe we'll have to put up some aftermarket intakes to the test. I'll dump that in a seperate thread though. This is a "show me" thread!

This thread will deliver on install pictures/instructions!

Thanks for the thanks! It helps motivate me to actually use some of my potential, instead of being a lazy ass!

Btw, I dumped this out of etka (I'll verify when I get home). Gonna post up the electrical stuff later this afternoon.

The ETKA pictures/numbers of the cabling first:

Here's a link to the original size.

Here's a link to the original size.

Here's the part numbers superimposed on the above pictures.

Sorry. I didn't make a bigger one than this.

On the one below. They were together when I bought them, and I'm not sure what is what. I made my best guess when I put the arrows/part numbers. Feel free to conjecture, correct or be confused.

Sorry. I didn't make a bigger one than this.

    Enough pictures yet?

Tim, that completes the trip down ETKA lane. I'm gonna confirm part numbers when I leave this oppressive establishment more commonly referred to as "the grind".

    As promised... Lots of pictures.

This is the part number from the cables that are tied together.

Here's a link to the original size.

You will notice they are not the same. The part number above is when they are combined.

Here's a link to the original size.
So.. The white wrapped cable you will see in a couple pictures is the + side cable, and of course black is ground.

Looks like when I screencaptured the long cable out of etka, I didn't include the part numbers from etka, just the picture.
Soo... The picture below is the original part number, and the one from my earlier picture (1K0971228L) is the superceded part.

Here's a link to the original size.

This is the part number on the actual battery box. No extra explanation for once.

Here's a link to the original size.

This is just a styrofoam piece that takes up space in the battery box, and probably keeps stuff from moving around. Your choice.
It is hard to make out, but the etka picture and this picture are the same part number.

Here's a link to the original size.

This is the Golf R stock plate. Didn't even bother to look it up on etka. It has a B on the end of the part number, where the mk5 R32 has nothing.

Here's a link to the original size.

This is a picture of the side of the donor battery box. It is hard to tell, but there is a giant ring of rubber pressed into the groove.
The groove goes all the way around, but when you get to a certain spot, you realize that it doesn't make a complete circle.
Basically, you need that seal to seal out the outside world from underneath. If it is in good shape, reuse. Or whatev.

Here's a link to the original size.

This is the bottom of the stock Golf R plate. It has a seal on it there, also that is a chunk of foam/seal in that divit thingy.
I'm probably going to reuse the stock Golf MK6 R plate, and take that foam out right there, as we need that space for the cables coming out.

Here's a link to the original size.

This is the cover from the donor mkv r32 car. Noticed that the divit doesn't have any foam. Notice that the sealing surface has nothing on it. The etka drawing has a seperate seal, and I assume I'm just missing it. Since I'm reusing the Golf R plate, it has the stock seal
that I am going to reuse.

Here's a link to the original size.

This is just the pic of the carpet off, getting ready to take schtuff apart.

Here's a link to the original size.

This is with the spare out, and the bottom right styrofoam out. You now see the plate!

Here's a link to the original size.

Soo.. took the bolts out. All of them, but 1, have welded nuts on the bottom of the sheet metal. The one that has the free nut,
is the one closest to the rear bumper/hatch sill. Notice.. There is a huge hole to the ground! This excites me!

Here's a link to the original size.

This is a close up of that hole. Notice the lines here? I'm thinking windshield washer fluid? Carbon canister for EVAP? No clue.
You also see the rear subframe for mounting the rear diff, and rear suspension.

Here's a link to the original size.

I don't know what this is. A sensor of some sort?

Here's a link to the original size.

This is the hole that the llloooonnnngggg battery cable goes into.

Here's a link to the original size.

This is in the upper right hand corner of the hatch area. This is the spot to ground the battery to the chassis.

Here's a link to the original size.

I've put the battery tray in, and mocked up the cables. There is a "hump" at the end of the cable where you bolt it to the chassis.
Your guess is as good as mine why there is a hump. You will see where I am holding it down...
Where the cables come out of the box.. The top plate has that divit to allow the cables out, and that black stuff is the seal.

Here's a link to the original size.

I put the styrofoam back in, and if you look very closely, you will see where the "hump" sticks out, through the styrofoam.

Here's a link to the original size.

Soo.. From here.. I ripped out the hole plug. It is very well adhesive'd in there. I ended up just ripping it apart to get it out.
Now, I jacked up the back of the car, and attempted, and I really mean attempted... To show you where, under the car,
the other side of the whole. Hopefully this will psuedo-help you in finding it. All I can really say is.. If you look
at the back of the gas tank, the hole is just a little bit straight back from the back of the gas tank.

Here's a link to the original size.

Here's a link to the original size.

I'm still trying to figure out the exact path I want to take the battery cable up to the front of the car.
I know it is routed completely outside (underneath) the car, except for where it comes in the hatch..
That's all I know so far. I haven't found any good pictures of the exact routing. I know there is a used
mkv R32 at my local dealership, on the used car lot. Might go look at it to determine the routing path.

    Enjoy the pictures and story!

Oh, and another quick question about my thread. Too much info/pictures? Not enough? Just right?

    I sure am in Atlanta.

I haven't forgotten about this. Still waiting for a mkv r32 guy to take some pictures so I have the "exact" route VW took to get the battery cables up front.

I could make my own route, and I already figured out exactly how. Want to be able to give ya'll the option of taking the strictly OEM, vs. an alternate way.

    Stay tuned.

Basically.. I've got the wiring almost complete, with a bunch of video.

I had to drop the gas tank about an inch to get the wiring past it so that it will run the 100% OEM way. Then cinch the gas tank back up. The other thing is, the part of the fuse panel that is a stud that the wiring harness bolts to.. It needs a different stud size. The stock R size nut is a 10mm, and the MKV R32 nut is a 13mm. I'll get some more information up as I know it. Might be fairly easy to change out the stud.

Can tell you this though.. It is crazy just how identical the chassis is compared to the mkv r32.

You can try to use the one that comes packaged with Windows, Windows Live Movie Maker or something like that (assuming you're on Windows).

Yeah the MK6 isn't really anything brand new, it was an optimization of the MK5.. Which initially lead a lot of people to complain about how it should be called MK5.5 or something along those lines.

Found this while researching this mod, MK5 R32 ownership. Glad I found it since I was trying to figure out how you were connecting the black + cable to the white one. Are you going to put that fuse box in there? It has a circuit breaker so that if something happens to the + cable, things don't catch on fire. Found P/N for that and other parts on the Russian ETKA, here.

OT: Does anyone have a better source for ETKA than that russian site? Google's translate isn't always that helpful...

    Teasing.....

Large picture can be found here.

The stockie mounting point in the picture is a M6 x 1.00, and the R32 one is a M8 x 1.25. Still contemplating which way to go.
    Thread adapter OR
cut it off, and replace with M8 weldable projection stud OR
    xxx OR
    ???
    Profit!

I know I'm bumping an old thread, but is there any chance you can have these images rehosted?

Do you have any other information to share about the process? It seems like this thread just died before the project was completed.

I'm planning to relocate my battery in the near future and there isn't much information about it in these forums. Thanks.
