I know i have searched. Im looking for some input from some of the EIP guys that are turbo'd. I have
an EIP muffler but don't have the resonator and an wondering if i should get one and add it now instead
of doing it later. I Just got my Turbo project up and running and still am running just off the DP. Im about
to install the exhaust later today and thinking i might just wait and get a 3" res. what do u guys think?
    thanks

I think since you are turbo you probably won't need the resonator. Try it without and if the sound is not what your after then weld in a resonater.

It doesn't drone all that much. It did much more so before the turbo.

I had a resonator on my EIP exhaust when I was turbo and always wanted to remove it because the car was too quiet under full throttle. Never got around to it though.

I did remove the step down portion of the exhaust though since the downpipe was 3 inches and the off the shelf EIP has the step down for stock slip clamp.

Im not running anything except 3in piping from the turbo out obnoxious and i daily it . I did run a eip non res for a little and since the turbo acts like a muffler as well it was a bit quieter than the neuspeed non-res i had .

Well after the install it is actually quite. Like stock quite till the exturnal dump sounds off an 14 psi
I wonder why the turbo kills the drown sound. I like it a lot

Now how about a different question, How many people aren't running cats? im kinda looking of a different
way to connect the DP to the exhaust. I hate U-Bolt exhaust clamps and there is no room for movement
when the engine moves. Some pictures would help. I have it set up that way not but i know i will have
to change it soon or it will start cracking some where. thanks for the info

use Vband clamps and flanges to weld in there. if you can add a flex pipe section in there.

Im running straight pipes, no cat no resonators and no mufflers, its loud kind a quiet at iddle, but when I hit boost is a beast, it drones a lot in between 2.5k and 3.5 k rpms , but since I only drive the car once a month , I dont care

I didnt think about that. Good idea Louis. ill have to get some. I think the vband clamp off my turbo dp is
leaking also. Might just need a new one since it is used. I know with my job working on big trucks and
stuff it seems like they always leak though. They will hold good for a while and by the time they come
back in for a service the damn thing is leaking and u can see a black trail

the sound is altered because all of the exhaust is traveling thru the turbo (and pushing the fan/blade/impeller) so there is resistance that smooths out the exhaust pulses.
cats are for old ladies. no cats, no res, no worries. and exhaust should be welded wherever possible. i ripped off the Vband that connected my mid-pipe to my EIP catback twice before i cut that bish off. (there's a flex section built into my DP.)

Think ill add a 3" flex section between the dp and the mid pipe. I just dont want to add anything that
makes is a pain in the ass if the dp ever has to come out. The factory dp is a bitch to get out

a flex pipe after the exhaust goes horizontal may not be the best plan. gravity and heat will teach that flex to sag, drag, and wear. mine is in the DP and i can take it out no problem. take 5 minutes....as long as it's not too hot.

let me see a picture? i got my DP from Louis which has been cut and rewelded so its not hitting the driveline.
i was thinking about welding a short flex; maybe 4 inches long, at the end with a vband flange so it can
be taken off anytime with out much problem. Hope is wont leak also, i need to get new engine mounts
soon and that will help a lot

Back up from the dead. Just checking in with some of you again. Now after all the kinks have been worked out after my turbo install i have a question about my exhaust. Im just about to 5000 miles after the install. Ive had a small backfire sound from the start, No big deal. But now i thinking its gettin worse. I have an eip used setup with no res. it does not pop every time just every now an then and sometimes its a loud pop haha. wondering if i installed a resonator if it would go away or it its just how it goes. Does not bother me just wondering.

do you mean when you lift off the throttle? like to shift or just to decelerate? mine does it too. if you had a cat, it'd be much less likely to do so because the un-burnt fuel would burn up in the cat instead of accumulating in the exhaust and then popping/crackling. mine is not every time i lift, but certainly once or twice every time i drive the car.

I ran a turn down off my downpipe. And you think your pops are bad. I guess im odd, but i loved hearing it do it on downshifts and redline or no lift up shifts. At night, there was flames. Guess im odd

I get backfires on decel, I like them though. You can have your tuner turn on fuel cut on decel to get rid of it if it bothers you.

it does not really bother me. just kinda wondered if it was normal. Seems to be getting worse lately
but could be just me. My car does it on decel and shifting. i dont mind it, haha my girlfriend does though.

I wonder if addin a res would quite it down a bit though. i love my EIP but sometimes i feel like a high school kid with a loud car just to piss people off. living in town i know it wakes people up when i go to work and it always turns cops heads. be nice if it was a few notches quieter. ill look and see if i can find a small res then a spot to fit it in. thanks
