Starting to look at replacement engines for my 1958 Mohawk 14 runabout.
^The white one.
The challenge comes in with weight. She can't take much (if any) more weight at the stern. The current engine is a 1975 Johnson 50, coming in at about 180 pounds from what I've found online (but question). I'd LIKE to get a 60-70hp engine. Clearly with the weight restriction, it needs to be a 2-stoke. But even the 2010 Yamaha 70 2-stoke comes in at close to 230 pounds. And the 50 comes in at 189.
So..the needs:
- Under 225 pounds
- 50-75 hp, 60-70 is ideal
- Remote (non-tiller) controls
- Electric start
- Reliable, easy to start (so wife an take it out without being nervous about being stranded)
Wants:
- Under 200 pounds
- Power tilt & trim
- Easy parts availability
I'm in the research phase, no need to buy today.
