The Saab I bought a few months ago definitely isn't for me. Too..."nice" and soft. I decided to pick up what I've wanted the entire time.

96 Montego Blue with 138k, cloth interior with a little wear on the drivers seat, mostly mint body, NO rust , a mint hardtop, and it runs pretty much mint. Only problem is that it overheats at idle...and the fans seem to kick on. Going to have fun tracking that one down.

Definitely a fun car, and I figured I could share with you guys.

Did some mountain runs last weekend on a '92 and I realized I needed one of these in my life. Now the quest to find the right one at the right price.

      Congrats!

You can't go wrong with a Miata.

      Thanks guys

Really fun car, it isn't obviously the most exciting thing on it's own, but the experiences it can be used in are awesome. Fun in the twisties, fun cruising the beach, fun on backroads...

Nice car! Just consult gtxHawaii over at miata.net and he'll set you straight on the overheating issue.

      Oh and make sure to:
      swap out plugs and wires
change engine, trans and diff oil. (motocraft trans makes it nice and buttery)
make sure your shift turret has oil.
      give me your hardtop
may want to look into new suspension if still on stock shocks etc.

      Happy motoring!
      I'll be in my bunk.

      Overheats at idle? Water pump?

Also check the radiator for damaged fins/blockage.

IIRC- this engine was designed for a transverse application, so in the longitudinal (Miata) application the back of the engine runs hotter due to the way the coolant lines are ran. So you need to track that issue down asap.

having a hard time understanding how 'runs pretty much mint' and 'overheats at idle' go together.

Well it RUNS fine but it happens to creep up in heating when I let it sit

Threw a new radiator cap and some coolant it needed this morning and it hasn't seemed to overheat just yet. Also just threw some new wipers on so I can see when it rains
