I noticed there are some delays caused by a "JC" who's working on the car, based on your other build thread for this same project. What's left to do on this?

Good point. Nothing takes 4 weeks, let alone 6 months. Even if there was over a months worth of parts delays...seems pretty whack.

We still have to relocate the battery to the trunk, do the entire fuel system, fab the piping for both WG's, fab the exhaust pipe coming off the big turbo, make an elbow with a flange that runs between the turbos, fab the charge pipe out of the small turbo, send all the piping out to be ceramic coated, route all new vacum hoses, hook up all the electrical crap, install my new subframe, and tune. I'm sure there is more but those are the big things I can think of at the moment.
Being as that my car is the biggest project he as and it has been in there longer than anyone else's I would think my car would take priority but I guess JC doesn't see it that way. I told him in the beginning that time wasn't an issue and I just wanted it to be done right, but when I dont go over there for a week or two and find out that nothing has been done thats just rediculouse. Thats probably happened 10 times in the last 6 months. Thats not the only problem either, his lacky he's got working for him doesn't understand how much money goes into a car like this. The guy isn't careful with anything so now the edges of both doors are dinged up from hitting the lift, my bumper is cracked in several places along the bottom, the powder coat on one of the turbos is scratched where he hooked the ground for the welder to it, my wheels are scratched to sh!t, and a bunch of other stuff I'm not happy with. Either way, I'm giving JC 2 weeks to finish the job and if he cant deliver, I'm taking it somewhere else.
Look up fast times motorsports (owned and operated by JC)...that is where the car has been worked on for the last 6 months, hell you can even call ask about my car if want![]()

Well it's official, I'm towing the car from fast times motorsports on Thursday, 40 miles south to Rob's Speed Shop. I've been in contact with him for about a week and he says he would be more than happy to finish the build. Seems like a real stand up guy. Pretty excited about it, only thing is I'm about $4700 into it already and now I'm gonna have to pay Rob to make sure it's done right this time. It's a headache but if it gets my car done, its well worth it.
On a side note, mad props to tyler for suggesting Rob, thanks a ton.![]()

Rob is a good guy,He helped me tune my megasquirt when he had the dyno at his pops shop on west temple and 27th. If anybody can help its surely him.
#54
Rob's seems like a really good place - at least they won't B.S. you about getting things done. Which seems to be a problem with some local places lately.
#55
Yeah I'm pretty excited to get it down there. I was gonna have rob pull the motor to check clearances and make sure fast times didn't screw anything up, and now thats turned into doing a full 2.0 stroker setup. I can already see this is gonna get a whole lot more expensive![]()
#56
Well I got my car over to Rob's yesterday and he was just full of bad news. After taking a look at everything that JC had already done, he came to the conclusion that we cant really use any of it!!! Both turbos are bad enough that he wont put them on the car. The Header is totally F*cked. The runners are too small for my HP goals and they aren't even port matched to exhaust flange. He doesn't like the SS piping that JC used for the IC piping, and wants to change it to aluminum. Pretty much we are starting from scratch. First things first, he's going to pull the motor and have his audi tech check everything out to make sure Jensen's machine shop didn't mess anything up, then we can start doing the stroker. Needless to say I'm pretty pissed about the whole situation. I called JC today about getting some of the money back for the work he did, or didn't do. Came to an agreement and I'm getting $2200 back for both turbos, both wastegates, and for the header that he screwed up. Not a total loss but just enough to sting
Rob suggested just doing a single setup instead of the compound. Not sure how I feel about it, but at this point it would save me some money. What do you guys think?

at least you got some money back.

I know you probably already know. But just remember, you'll never get what you put into your car back. So it's probably better that what happened, happened. I am sure with that money you got back, you can turn that into some pretty decent setups.
Just look at the bright side!![]()

Well after talking to Rob, I think we are going to go with a PTE 5857 dual BB with billet wheel and a Tial SS hotside. I figure with the stoker IE is going to throw in my motor, I should get pretty good spool out of it and make my 500hp goal. Rob is crunching some numbers to make sure it will work. As far as injector size, Rob thinks my ID1000's wont get me to 500hp on E85. He's gonna do some calculations for me to make sure but I just thought that sounded alittle odd. What do you guys think.

The 5857 is laggy and a Tial SS hotside won't fit it. I have one on Dave's car- even with a .48 housing on it it's laggier then I would like. It'll do over 600 horse- so it's a bit overkill. Precision has their own V band housings which fit their turbine wheels... The 5530 or 5830 might be good choices, they use a ~copy of the 30r turbine wheel and spool better then the old 5857.. The 5857 has been replaced anyways by the 5858 CEA... In that size ballpart though, I would do the 5558 CEA. Like I said, the 5857 is laggy.
ID1000's on e85- eh, it'd be tight. You'd end up having to run 4 or 5 bar base pressure- not that would be a bad thing.

That's a great turbo and will definitely get you to 500 hp. He may be right about the injectors, I haven't used E85 but you need about 50% more fuel that with pump gas. Some 1200's will probably get you there. You are also going to need more fuel pump to get there, maybe a bosch 044 setup in IE's surge tank? You should be able to get by with just one, I've seen some DSM's make over 600whp on a single 044 and E85.
After doing some reading, the 5857 will flow 60 lb/min. 1000's @ 100% DC on E85 will only flow 55 lb/min and the 1200's will do 65 lb/min.![]()

Awesome info fellas...
I just mentioned the 5857 because I have a friend with one that has never been used. He has a v-band housing on it so I just assumed it was a Tial, didn't know precision makes there own.
As far as fueling goes I already have an 044 drop in pump from 034. JC told me we would just make a custom pick up so there wouldn't be any starvation issues. I had origionally planned on going with IE's surge tank and a single 044, but JC had me convinced that the drop in would be cheaper and easier to do.
#67
MK4 / TT tanks do not work like that no matter what you do. The OE pump goes into a housing which uses a siphon pump to keep a high fuel level around the pump... Even if you spring load the pump against the bottom of the tank, it's going to scavenge with low fuel levels unless you stuff it in the OE housing. The bosch pump won't really fit in the OE housing.
The 034 pump mount setups scavenge badly- that's why we don't make one like that. It's not an issue of the pump inlet being close to the bottom of the tank or not.

So couldn't I still use my 044 pump if I purchased one of your surge tanks without having to worry about starvation issues? The farther I get into it the more money this is costing me to complete. Sucks because I had all the funds upfront to complete everything when Fast Times still had the car. Paid him loads of money and really didn't get much in return.
Sounds to me like I need a sponsor for this build "Wink Wink". Just think about it, the only 1.8T compound turbo in the "WORLD". That sounds like good buisness if you ask me![]()

Now you tell me. In all honesty, Fast Times seemed legit. I had them do my clutch and they got it in and out of the shop in a couple of days. I had gone over there several times before I made the decision to let them do my build, and everytime I went over there they were elbows deep in what ever project was in the shop at the time. I saw some really incredible setups roll out of his shop, and I really didn't have much reason to question the BS they were feeding me. In the future I'll definitley know who and who not go too.
Pete, dont listen to this guy, everyone wants to see this setup happen![]()
